De Bolhoed Vegan Restaurant in Amsterdam
Amsterdam is one of the most beautiful cities in the world, and has little of the seedy nature which people imagine when the name is mentioned. The red light district does have many sex shops, lingerie clad women in the windows and similar. However it also has families, little old ladies, and a certain feeling of safety encompasses the city, and all of it's districts.
I visited Amsterdam with my vegan fiancée, and after the first couple of days we were nearly at our wits end trying to find a decent vegan, or even vegetarian restaurant in Amsterdam. On one occasion when we asked for a vegan meal, we received a mayonnaise covered salad, and egg, and some well buttered toast. Nightmare!
Fortunately after some work on google we found a great vegan restaurant in the heart of Amsterdam, namely De Bolhoed. De Bolhoed is located about five to ten minutes away from the centre of the city, and while it's sign is well hidden under a vast clump of plants, you will be hard put to miss this packed vegetarian restaurant.
Yes the De Bolhoed is a vegetarian restaurant in Amsterdam, but it does have plenty of vegan options, conversions and even a four course vegan meal of the day each evening. The staff are friendly and will work hard to meet your dietary requirements, even if you throw in gluten free on top of being vegan!
The food itself is fantastic, and was by far the best Vegan Food in Amsterdam which we found. the meals were varied and tasty, the salads were rich and filled with all kinds of vegetable, the vegan lasagna was a delight, as were the vegan enchiladas!
At De Bolhoed Amsterdam Vegan Restaurant we also had some huge portions. When we arrived there and ordered for the first time the waitress even said that she thought we had ordered too much (and boy was she right!) Even the starters at De Bolhoed are gigantic, though I would definitely recommend trying out their hummus!
We ended up going to this Amsterdam vegan restaurant three times, and each time was a delight. The only downside is that the food is by no means delivered fast, you can expect to spend some time in this vegan restaurant. However I can readily say that both the vegetarian and vegan food is unparalleled by any other vegetarian restaurant in Amsterdam.
So if you are a vegan in Amsterdam I would easily recommend that you check out the Amsterdam vegan restaurant De Bolhoed!
