Tribute to great companions

As a preface to this piece I think it only right to mention the people who made my trip REALLY special, it feels kinda weird 'meeting people from the Internet' but from my experience and certainly in this case, I've found them extremely nice, kind, amusing, knowledgeable, generous and extremely good company. As I said in my initial piece on my trip to Vienna, I had actually met Richard and Michael in 'real life' and I had chatted to Nicolas Zotti on Twitter, but although I'd heard of Christoph Mahr I'd really never actually had anything to do with him and all these guys have contributed to the fantastic experience I had in Austria. Richard helped me no end with both organising accommodation, advice, great company and ensuring I didn't die of caffeine deprivation. Michael put an amazing amount of time and effort into organizing our sightseeing, transport and generally keeping everything running smoothly, Nicolas and Christoph gave up hours and hours of their own time to show us round there city and Christoph in particular was very knowledgeable about all the local history and sights, I really should have taken notes as he told us so much it's impossible for my aging brain to remember it all, but he really did make the day in Vienna a very special one. Also not to forget Dhruv, who in effect used part of his Family trip to take time out and hang out with us and again was great company. I am truly honoured and humbled to have met all of them.

So major credit for this piece must go to:-

On with the tour

Now onto the first real day, Richard and I had arranged to meet Michael in the centre of Vienna (quite close to our hotel, which was really well located, thanks Rich) in Stephansplatz by the church, and about 10 am he came bounding over, arms open and smiling as usual and the trip began. We'd arranged to meet Nicolas and Christoph for coffee, before touring the main tourist area inside the Ringstraße a sort of inner ring road built on the site of ancient city walls that used to defend the city in centuries past I cannot remember every building , but they included Palaces, Government Offices, Museums and the Spanish Riding School, famous for its white Lipizzaner Horses, which actually crossed the road under a tunnel from the stables to the training/display centre whilst we were walking round the city, unfortunately they were about a hundred metres away and I only managed to get one quick long distance shot of them.

On the Saturday we went round Vienna there was some sort of celebration/fair going on so some of the sights were spoiled a little as there were lots of tents and shows in the main square and also quite a few people chalking on the closed roads, but in all fairness , the atmosphere was good and when you're on holiday, you need to remember things as they were and I honestly don't have a bad memory of this trip. We had arranged to meet Dhruv and his family in a Funfair in the city, The Prater, later in the afternoon where Michael had also booked us in for a meal at a traditional and popular Vienna Restaurant Schweizerhaus.

I'm going to post a few photos of people and sights and then call it a draw, today has been really long as I travelled home today. Hope some of the pictures are interesting, for me they are all magical memories of a great trip.

I was actually foolish enough to go on this ride, which Michael Hell may be able to confirm :)
