Walking Through The Park

Updated on August 18, 2011

I live in the city of Carlisle in the United Kingdom, it is a historic city that boasts the first ever post box in Britain, a castle and a beautiful cathedral along with an old victorian market hall.

However we have a lot of park land that surrounds the city and three rivers which flow through it, my favourite park in the city is Rickerby Park, which is situated along the River Eden. It is the most beautiful part of my city.

I am lucky as I only live 5 minutes walk from here, and see it every day, I walk here every morning and evening, I would recommend it to any one who visits my city.
On my way to the park I have to walk a long an old street that you can see with the most beautiful church on the hill that towers above the park when you descend to the river.

Inside the park the river flows silently, there is a lot of greenery and the most beautiful trees that tower up in to the sky, its like being in a whole new different world right in your back yard. Walking further into the park, you will be struck by the beauty of the river, you know it could be raining the river looks different, when its sunny the river is different again, any season any type of weather and wow its like a whole new world opening its doors to you.

Deep inside the park there is a memorial dedicated to the many brave men who gave their lives in the many battles and wars including the first world war 1914 - 1918 and the second world war 1939 - 1945. Its a very beautiful tall tower surrounded by a private park within the park.

On the other side of the park there is a bridge - Eden Bridge it is called as it crosses the river there are some beautiful arches but one you can actually walk under that reveals a hidden park behind it and a beautiful path that leads along the river hidden by trees, then opens out on to the cricket pitch.

These are only some of the pictures that I have taken over the years but if you are thinking of visiting my City the walk around this park is breathtaking. On a warm day you can sit next to the river and and have a picnic, when it rains you can smell the clean air and the many scents and aromas that the trees and plants give off.

I would recommend to any one to walk through Rickerby Park just once, I find inspiration for my hubs by walking through here, I hope that you like the views...
