Wintzell's Oyster House: Great Seafood in Alabama, Florida and Mississippi
If you're traveling in the southeast and you have a hankering for great seafood, check to see if there is a Wintzell's Oyster House in your vicinity. Founded in Mobile, AL in 1938, Wintzell's has been a favorite of Alabama Gulf Coast locals and for decades.
After enjoying many years of success, Wintzell's Oyster House expanded from its original Downtown Mobile location to open several additional restaurants in other parts of Mobile County and in neighboring Baldwin County, Alabama.
In 2008, Wintzell's began expanding throughout the southeast as a franchise business. There are now a number of franchise operations located in other parts of the state of Alabama as well as in Florida and Mississippi.
Enjoy Dining at Wintzell's Oyster House
Wintzell's Oyster House is a fun place to enjoy a great seafood dinner. The restaurant's atmosphere is casual and friendly. The walls are plastered with fun and interesting sayings that keep visitors entertained while they are on the premises. No matter where you are in the dining room, waiting area, or bar, you'll catch a glimpse of fun words sayings that will make you laugh and think.
Wintzell's Food Selections
Of course, the atmosphere is only a small part of what makes Wintzell's Oyster House such a great place to enjoy a meal. The main attraction, truly, is the food. As you would expect based on the restaurant's name, the specialty at Wintzell's Oyster House is oysters. The restaurant's menu boasts that you can have oysters any way you like: fried, stewed, or nude. You can even get an oyster sampler platter that includes a combination of Grilled Oysters, Oysters Bienville, Oysters Monterey and Oysters Rockerfeller.
Even though oysters are a prominent feature on the menu at Wintzell's, plenty of other choices are available. My personal favorites on this restaurant's menu are the rich, creamy Seafood Au Gratin, the decidedly southern Shrimp and Cheesy Grits with Creole Crawfish Sauce, and the delectable Key Lime Pie.
If you are really hungry or are sharing your meal with someone else, you may want to order the fried or oven broiled J.O. Platter. The fried platter includes generous portions of fish, shrimp, scallops, oysters, and stuffed crabs. The oven broiled platter features fish, shrimp, scallops, and snow crab legs
