World's Tallest Thermometer
Is that all?
Yup - it's exactly what it says it is - the world's tallest thermometer! The thermometer is located in Baker, California right off of Interstate 15 - you can't miss it, whether you are traveling during the day or at night. It is 134 feet tall and can measure temperatures up to 134 degrees fahrenheit.
The height was determined by the record for the hottest temperature ever recorded in North America - 134 degrees in Death Valley, CA on July 10, 1913.
The sign was built in 1991 by the Young Electric Sign Company (also known as YESCO), based in Salt Lake City, Utah. They have built electric signs that can be found from coast to coast.
This is certainly one of the highlights of your I-15 trip through California. And if you're heading south, it's definitely exciting to see because it means you are that much closer to Peggy Sue's 50s Diner in Yermo!
