Best Day Trips From Cebu City, Philippines (and How to Actually Get There)
If you're visiting Cebu and only sticking to the city... you're missing out.
Cebu Island is packed with day trip destinations that are perfect for waterfalls, beaches, island hopping, mountain views, and even food trips. The challenge? Most of these spots aren’t exactly next-door. Some take 2-4 hours by land, and figuring out how to get there can be tricky if you're not familiar with the area.
I learned this the hard way on my first visit way back in the early 2000s, so in this post, I’ll break down:
- The top day trip spots you shouldn't miss
- How far they are from Cebu City or Mactan
- And the best way to get there (without wasting time, overpaying, or getting lost)
Let’s go!
1. Moalboal: Snorkeling, Sardine Run & White Beach
Travel time from Cebu City: ~3 hours
Why go: Snorkel with sardines just 10 meters from shore, free-dive with turtles, or chill at White Beach. Great food scene too.
How to get there:
You can take a bus from South Bus Terminal, but it’s a long and crowded ride (especially if you're carrying beach gear). Most travelers book a private van transfer so they can leave early and get back comfortably by night.
2. Hagnaya Port to Bantayan Island (Island Day Trip)
Travel time from Cebu City: ~4 hours including ferry
Why go: Bantayan is postcard-perfect. Sand as fine as Boracay, no crowds. You can do it in a day, but most stay overnight.
How to get there:
Drive or ride to Hagnaya Port, then hop on a ferry. It’s possible by bus, but takes forever. Most people book a van straight to the port, especially if they're catching an early ferry.

3. Oslob: Swim with Whale Sharks & Visit Tumalog Falls
Travel time from Cebu City: ~3.5 to 4 hours
Why go: Oslob is famous for the whale shark experience (just remember to book early!). Tumalog Falls nearby is also worth a quick trek.
How to get there:
No direct flights or ferries here, so you’ll need to go by land. If you're doing a same-day return, I highly recommend arranging private transport because buses leave early, and public vans can be hit or miss.

4. Kawasan Falls: Canyoneering Adventure
Travel time from Cebu City: ~3.5 hours
Why go: This is not your typical waterfall. Canyoneering means jumping, sliding, and trekking your way downstream to Kawasan’s famous turquoise pool.
How to get there:
It’s best to leave early in the morning via private van (especially if you booked a tour). Buses take time and don’t drop you off directly at the activity area.

5. Carcar & Argao: Torta, Lechon, and Sweet Delights
Travel time from Cebu City: ~1.5 to 2.5 hours (depending on stops)
Why go: This combo is a foodie’s dream. Carcar is famous for its crispy lechon (pork roasted over charcoal), while Argao is known for torta, tablea (chocolate), and centuries-old Spanish architecture.
What to do:
Start in Carcar’s public market. Yes, the lechon here really does live up to the hype. Then head south to Argao for a cultural stroll around heritage houses and a sweet treat of torta and sikwate (hot chocolate made from tablea). Don’t forget to stop by the balay sa agta cave if you're up for a short detour.
How to get there:
You can do this route via bus or even motorbike, but it’s so much better in a private car, especially if you're doing multiple stops and food side-trips. This is a relaxed, delicious road trip, great for couples or families!
6. Sirao & Tops Lookout: The City Escape You Didn’t Know You Needed
Travel time from Cebu City: ~45 minutes
Why go: Known as the “Little Amsterdam” of Cebu, Sirao’s flower farms are perfect for a quick escape. Combine with a sunset view at Tops Lookout.
How to get there:
You can take a habal-habal (motorbike taxi), but it’s a steep ride. I’ve done it and let’s just say, if you’re not into motorbikes, a private car is worth it.
Sirao Gardens, Cebu City
So, What’s the Best Way to Do All These Day Trips?
If you’re confident navigating local terminals and don’t mind roughing it, Cebu’s bus system can get you there (eventually).
But if you’re traveling with family, kids, or just want to make the most of your time, I’d suggest booking a private transfer. We actually run a service called Cebu Tourist Transfers, and many of our guests use us just for day trips like these.
- Fixed prices (no surprises)
- Local drivers who know all the best food and photo stops
- Pickup straight from your hotel, resort, or Airbnb
Whether it’s Moalboal, Oslob, or Bantayan, we’ve probably driven there this week!
Final Thoughts
Cebu isn’t just about the city or beaches, you’re literally surrounded by hidden gems just a few hours away. The key is planning transport ahead of time so you don’t waste precious vacation hours.
And trust me, there’s nothing like relaxing in an air-conditioned car while watching stunning scenery roll by.
