One of Saigon's newest and most popular night spots, "The Crazy Buffalo" offers outdoor open air seating at one of the busiest intersections in the city. The view of the chaotic traffic is enough to keep anyone entertained while enjoying a cold drink. The front of the building has a giant neon sign that is a 4 story tall head of a violent looking buffalo. This sign is recognized as one of the most extraordinary neon signs anywhere in the world. Above the open air bar on the ground floor is a seldom used nightclub that rarely has any customers. The Crazy Buffalo is open 24/7, even though most bars in Saigon close just after midnight.
Location
The Crazy Buffalo is located at one of the busiest intersections of District 1, or Pham Ngu Lao. This area is also known as "The Western Quarter". The address is; De Tham 212, Ho Chi Minh City, which is the former location of Quyen Thanh Hotel. This area is where most tourists choose to stay while visiting Ho Chi Minh City, due to the numerous affordable hotels and restaurants catering to tourists. Hotels in the Pham Ngu Lao area can be as low as 10-20USD per night for basic clean rooms with air conditioning and all amenities. Restaurants in the Pham Ngu Lao district rarely have anything on the menu that costs anymore than 5USD.
Entertainment
It may sound silly, but the most entertaining thing for most people who drink at the Crazy Buffalo is simply watching the traffic in the intersection in front of the bar. If you have never been to Saigon, you might think this sounds pretty lame, well I can assure you that you would find it amazing if you saw it. The 4 way intersection has no lights or stop signs, and people go through at full speed all night long
from all 4 directions. This might sound impossible, and I am still not sure how it is, this is exactly why it is so entertaining to watch.
Aside from the traffic, the Crazy Buffalo has the best music of all the
bars in the area. When I say "the best music", I am talking about classic rock, not hip hop or house music that I do not consider to be worthy of being classified as music. The usual entertainment such as a pool table and live sports on TV is available inside on the ground floor, however I find the outdoor section far more entertaining.
What Makes The Crazy Buffalo Special?
Among the many things that makes The Crazy Buffalo special, is the men's
room on the ground floor. What could possibly be so special about a men's room you might ask? Well then my question to you is: have you ever
pissed on a television before? The urinal in the men's room is made of clear Plexiglas, and behind the glass is a large LCD TV screen, giving you the illusion of urinating directly on the television screen. Now I was very impressed by this because I had never seen this before, but if peeing on TVs is not your thing, The Crazy Buffalo still has the best music, and the most entertaining atmosphere in Saigon. The staff are friendly and they get the drinks to you quick and often. These are the reasons why I consider The Crazy Buffalo the best bar in Saigon.
