Things to do in England's Lake District

Updated on January 20, 2017

A guide to some of the wonderful things to do in England's Lake District

England's Lake District is one of the most beautiful places in the world. Poets love the Lakes, and William Wordsworth, one of the most famous poets ever, lived at Grasmere, in the heart of the Lake District. I live just 1 mile away from Wordsworth's home, Dove Cottage. In fact William Wordsworth once owned my home, White Moss House. He bought the house in the 1830s for his son, Willie, and the Wordsworth family owned my home until the 1930s.

I'm using my personal knowledge of England's Lake District to point you to some of the things to do on a visit to the Lake District.

Some people visit the Lake District for the hiking, walking, sailing and the many other outdoor activities that this area of great lakes and mountains provides.

Others visit the area because they love the poetry of William Wordsworth and the Romantic poets.

People also visit Lakeland because they love Peter Rabbit and Beatrix Potter, and want to see Beatrix Potter's home at Hilltop, Sawrey.

Maybe you want to see the home of John Ruskin, the great 19th century artist, poet, author and philosopher, at Brantwood, Coniston. This page will guide you to all of these places.

The Lake District National Park is one of the most visited areas in the UK. I hope you will find this Information site helpful.

I'm lucky to live in the Lakes, and I'm happy to share my personal knowledge with you.

The Lake District National Park - England's Lake District is a National Park

The Lake District National Park is a treasured natural resource.

The LDNPA manage the park, and also organise events and guided walks. It is the work of the Lake District National Park Authority that helps to keep this wonderful area looking so beautiful.

Locals may complain that they are not allowed to stick up sign, or build whatever they like, but that is why this area stays so unspoiled.

"No rain , no lakes" . Yes, The Lake District has a high annual rainfall .

Not everyone wants to hike the hills, sail on the lakes, or do outdoorsy things every day.

These are my favorite non-sporty things to do in the Lake District. Visit historic houses! All are indoors, and are great things to do if the weather is bad.
