My Reminiscences of Cape Cod

Updated on September 14, 2014

Reminiscences of Cape Cod

I spent summers and off-seasons and even hurricane Gloria on Truro, Cape Cod. The wind blew the salty air through the bedroom windows and it was wonderful. Oh the beaches, oh the walks, oh the food, oh the storms.

To the Lower Cape

Follow the crook of the arm

Past cranberry bog and apple farm

You're on your way to the Lower Cape

For a long weekend, a great escape

Past lobster shacks and t-shirt shops

Highway cabins and ice cream stops

Soon the commerce is mostly passed

Almost at our place, at last

This narrow piece of marshy land

With stunted pines in salty sand

Between the Atlantic and Cape Cod Bay

Where many Bostonians come to stay

On The Lower (aka Outer) Cape

In An Old Cottage

From our summers in Truro on the Lower Cape

In an old cottage above the Bay

We used to vacation; the girls would play

At low tide we'd walk along the beach

And somedays Provincetown we would reach

We cooked lobster and we'd cook fishes

And serve them up on the cottage dishes

These were the freshest, caught that day

All scrumptious meals during our stay

We had a funky radio but no TV

And the ills of the world were far off indeed

An excellent place to take our rest

We miss those days; they were the best

Favorite Town on the Lower Cape

Fresh Fish and Lobsters

Get fresh fish at the market

Live lobsters by the pound

Just drive the car and park it

North of Nantucket Sound

Plan a vacation to the Cape

It will be the best escape

You will love the time you spend

But don't drive there on the weekend

(if you can help it)

Visit Cape Cod, Massachussets!
