Have you ever been to Appleby?

Updated on June 22, 2013

Appleby is a beautiful village although it is called a town . it has a tiny post office , 2 banks, a school and several English country pubs.

Those of you who are kind enough to read my hubs often will know that Appleby is not my choice of somewhere to grow old in. I miss the Ocean more than anything.

It has now occurred to me , that by missing and pining over my old way of life near the Ocean.(well, almost on top of it. 5 min walk,)

I have inadvertently missed out on the beauty of the countryside.

So I am not going to say much in this hub except to thank my daughters´mother in law who took all these local pictures.

Then you can all gang up on me and tell what an idiot I have been , because of course the place Village or Town is lovely.

Not big enough to be classed as a forest but a wonderful walk in these woods makes you feel good.

I want to live in Appleby! :) It's such a beautiful place. I'd take walks, lie in the grass, say hi to the horses and other creatures, admire the scenery, breathe in the fresh air and relax! :)

And you're right, you are an idiot. Haha, kidding. But I really would rather live amidst trees than the ocean. :)

Thank you, Feline Prophet. I´m am grateful you did not lead a gang against ungrateful me. I can´t help loving the sea and all the friends I´ve left behind, and my son.

I have the best of both worlds don´t I. My daughter lives here with 3 great boys growing up and I can visit my son near the Ocean. Thank you for being so loyal. I don´t get over to your page often enough.

    Take care Dim

Yes Appleby is not only beautiful but has one of the lowest crime rates in the country., but if that´s a beach and you live there, then it is I who envies you...!!!!!!

    Hi mckbrds,

    I would if I could but I can´t.

used to be a silly sentence we always ucsed when we were young. Things are not always as easy as they seem are they. I can´t complain. Plus I still get plenty of visits to my son , who still lives where we all did near the Ocean,

    Thanks a lot for commenting.

You live in a beautiful area. But if your heart wants the ocean, then go find the ocean.

Appleby is a beautiful village and I loved your introduction to it because it's a reminder that it's easy to long for someplace other than the place we are right now and doing so can blind us to the beauty that still surrounds us.

I share your love of the sea, but the countryside has its own treasures.

Voted up across the board except for funny.

BTW: Please thank your daughter's mother-in-law for allowing you to share the stunning photos with us.

Lovely to see you , Vincent. Thank you for commenting

The fact that I have finally seen the beauty here , still doesn´t stop me from wanting to go home to the ocean...Glad you love it too. It´s the sounds from the sea that often amaze me.

Öh! I must go down to the sea again,

To the lonely sea and the tide,

And all I ask is a tall ship,

And a star to steer her by.

This village is so lush, green and full of life. Never discount a smaller place to live in, it has it's own set of merits, surprises and beauty. Although I must say living by an ocean is my preference to. Something about the salty sea air, the gulls, the whispers of the mermaids and the rolling of the waves onto shore as they lap and kiss the sand underneath. Oh take me down to the sea please. Lol Lovely pictures Dim. Cheers.

Hi billybuc . I must agree my friend took a real good pic of the bridge. In winter it often gets flooded so one half of the village cannot get over to the other half. We chose to live a fair way UP a hill from the bridge.

Wow, you live in a very beautiful village. There is beauty everywhere, if we just open our eyes and see. I recently came to that realization myself. After 8 months of complaining of how much I disliked where I moved, I finally opened my eyes and it's quite beautiful her. Thank you for sharing.

Well how lovely is that? My goodness you live in a beautiful village. The picture of the bridge is fantastic...I would love to visit one day and if lucky enough I may just have to head for this village. Thank you for sharing!
