Resident Evil: Degeneration - Horror Movie Review
A Live Action Motion Capture Resident Evil Film
This film just blows the three resident evil films up and pisses all over them really, it's everything that we ever wanted a resident evil film to be, particularly if you are a fan of the games and followed the stories from the first resident evil game, this is a motion captured film in which the actors acting was captured through motion capture technology and fed into a computer to create the animation that you see in the final film version, there is that believable film quality to it in the actors faces as the animation is cutting edge, but obviously you can still tell that technology needs to advance alot before it can become totally realistic, but that aside this film was highly enjoyable.
The films story centres on an Airport and a zombie outbreak within the airport, but it is unclear at first who set loose the T-virus(The virus that turns people into zombies) and why, but you later find out why, later on the characters discover that the G-virus(a virus that is worser than the T-virus) has been kept in a lab that Claire(one of the main characters) has become trapped in and so it's one of those race against time scenarios to stop the G-virus Monster getting out....
With this film, they tied it into the games story too with the addition of Claire Redfield and Leon Kennedy as the two main characters, after seeing the making of feature on the dvd, they said it was a continuation of the story after Resident Evil 4, although with no mentions of any story from that game, probably not to confuse the plot, which sort of makes sense, as there is a slight tendency to go back and do prequel crap that just contradicts certain story elements, but this is perfect as it fits nicely in between games as it were, what with Resident Evil 5 which you can see the trailer for on the dvd.
Again this was far better than the 3 Resident Evil films which I just felt were just average, even though they were written and produced by Paul Anderson who has done some good films, like Aliens vs Predator and even Mortal Kombat was cool, but I suppose the Japanese have that knack for creating the events of the game that they created in the first place and so this motion captured effort is far superior in every respect, because it doesn't try to re-invent the story like the other 3 films and it doesn't mess with the fans heads by short changing them, it just delivers the things that would make a good Resident Evil film.
If you've played the Resident Evil games then you'll know the moments in the game when you reach certain points when there are movie scenes and these drive the story forward, well this film is like one big movie clip that just drives itself and I really enjoyed it.
I'd recommend this film over the Resident Evil Films that have gone before as it is more true to the games and there is just something about the whole project that sings Biohazard/Resident Evil and is almost like an encore of the gaming spirit of zombie survival.
