Robin Edmondson sharing some long-tail keyword tips at HubCamp NYC

HubPages & Professional Development

At HubCamp NYC, We Discovered a Common Theme

This past weekend, Paul Edmondson, Robin Edmondson, and Yours Truly packed up and flew out to New York City for our third official HubCamp

There were some amazing Hubbers present at HubCamp NYC- new and old, prolific and moderate.  One common theme amongst the Hubbers we met was their use of HubPages.com to extend their professional lives, develop new careers, and find work.

Do you have a story on how HubPages has helped you find a job? If so, let us know!  We'd love to share it with the community.

Happy Hubbing!

An Interview with Edward Zhang

Get to know one of HubPages' Newest Engineers

1. Welcome to HubPages, Ed!  Could you tell us a little about yourself?

First of all, I am honored to be part of such a great team of people. I would like to thank the whole team for choosing to allow me to become part of this amazing community.

In my profile picture, you can see me dressed up as Ryu from Street Fighters. This was my first time dressing up (cosplaying) as a cartoon/game character, and it was very exciting. I went down to LA with a couple of friends last July to attend an anime convention, and it was a blast. So many people were dressed up in *amazing* outfits. I enjoyed the feeling of being able to contribute to the anime community.

2. What was your first impression of the site?

I really liked the design of the webpage. It felt really professionally done, and at first glance, you would not think that HubPages is just a startup. I must admit though, I really like our logo (the cursive spelling of HubPages). Albeit a simple logo, it's distinctive enough to represent the company. I have yet to publish a Hub on the site, but I plan on getting to that soon :)

3. What is your favorite feature of HubPages right now?

The ability to earn money! Who wouldn't enjoy being to earn money for writing articles? I love this idea! The whole symbiotic relationship between the company and the community is so awesome. We work for the community, providing them with new features (such as messaging, comment boxes, etc) so that they can have an enjoyable experience, and in return, they help us by publishing more awesome Hubs! The greatest part is, we both earn money in the process!

4. What do you enjoy doing in your free time?

As we can all tell from my previous statements, I enjoy anime very much. Every year I go to the same anime convention in June with a group of friends. Simone has attended the convention a couple of times as well! My anime hobbies aside, I have recently gotten into Starcraft 2. After watching my (little) brother play the game, I caved in and bought myself a copy of the game, so we often play team games together nowadays. In fact, my brother and I share a lot of hobbies. We also enjoy playing badminton together. We regularly go play badminton together in Emeryville. Unfortunately, he's better than me in both Starcraft and badminton... So...

5. Do you have a favorite food?

I would have to say that I LOVEEEE omelettes. Actually, I love eggs in general, but when you take an egg, and combine it with MEAT, you get PURE HEAVEN. There's no limit to what you can put in an omelette, and that's what makes it so awesome. If I'm feeling carnivorous, I can have an omelette with some bacon. If I'm feeling healthy, I can have a garden omelette! The choices are endless!

6. Now for a fun, silly question - do you have a favorite joke?

Honestly, I don't know. I've never been a fan of telling jokes. The first one that comes to my head is one that I'm sure we've all heard (since grade school)!

A: Knock Knock.

B: Who's there?

A: Boo.

B: Boo Who?

A: WHY ARE YOU CRYING??

Lameeee, I know, I know.

7. To close, could you tell us what you most look forward to with working at HubPages?

I hope to get to pick up the pace fast, and be able to make crucial improvements to the site that I can show off to my friends. I want to be able to tell them "I made this feature!" Of course, what I really hope for is to show HubPages that I can be a valuable asset to the team.
