Gordon Hamilton Interviews Nell Rose
Nell discusses her love of knowledge, passion for psychic phenomena, and more!
Hi, Nell, and thank you for agreeing to participate in this interview for the HubPages community. One of the first things that may strike a reader coming across your Hubs for the first time is the incredible variety of subjects upon which you write. Where do you find the inspiration and the knowledge to cover such a wide variety of topics so effectively?
Hi Gordon, I think I was born with a insatiable curiosity to know everything about, well, everything! If something catches my eye I have to research it, read every word, and now that I write for Hubpages, get it down in writing. I love writing but I also love learning each and every detail. My psychology Hubs are from years of attending evening classes. We covered everything from reasons people murder to remembering a shopping list by word association! LOL! The psychic hubs are the easiest, as I have been studying psychic phenomena ever since I was a small child.
Given the diversity of the subjects upon which you write, I know that this may be a difficult question and I’m sorry. If, however, someone told you that in the future you could only write to one major HubPages Topic category and no other, which one would it be and why?
The subject I would choose has to be psychic phenomenon, purely because its such a diverse subject. Each and every aspect of the occult can have many different answers. And that's what makes it so interesting. I love quantum physics, all things atom, if you like, and the so-called "psychic" stuff covers that. For example: time travel, is it possible? Are ghosts real or pure psychology? Maybe even time slips? Each subject in the genre has many answers, and me being me, I have to study each one, then tick off the answer that I think is the most plausible explanation.
As well as being a major contributor to HubPages as a writer, you are widely recognised and appreciated for the extent to which you leave meaningful, encouraging and friendly comments on the Hubs of other writers. In general terms only, can you explain some of the benefits to other Hubbers of participating so proactively in the wider community and meeting, in a sense, HubPages writers from around the world?
Participating in the wider community and leaving lots of comments are part of the fun of HubPages. This, I think, is the only writing site that lets us get to know each other well. Apart from learning lots of interesting stuff that I would never have known about, it's great to chat to other writers, get great ideas, and generally have a good time. Of course, participation means that more writers will know you exist (and therefore come over and comment on your own Hubs), which is great for boosting the popularity of a Hub. There's nothing better than seeing loads of comments. It really makes it all worthwhile.
It is mentioned in your profile that you were afforded an opportunity to appear on TV due to high-profile interest in your writing. What is the full story behind that and how inspiring did you find it as a writer?
The story behind the TV appearance is that it was in connection with my ebook Transition. without going into too much detail, it's about how I found out that my husband wanted a gender reasignment and how I coped with it. The TV station, which was a chat show, wanted to hear me speak about it, but sadly I couldn't get there at that time. But I have the opportunity to go in the future.
It may surprise many of your fans to learn that you share, to some extent, one of my passions: sea fishing. Can you tell us how that came about?
LOL! Yes, sea fishing! The story behind it still makes me laugh! I had never been out on a boat, let alone a trawler, before. A whole group of us decided we would go sea fishing. I was told in no uncertain terms that "You will be so seasick you won't ever want to go again!" The day dawned bright and sunny and off we went. Long story short, everybody else was so sick, but not me! I grabbed that fishing rod and brought up four fish in a row! Now I always go sea fishing when down by the coast. I absolutely love it. My friends, however, have never been since!
You have written many wonderful Hubs about your past life experiences, including living and being raised in a truly beautiful part of semi-rural England. Is there anything you can add about the Nell Rose of today, your present life interests and perhaps some new Hub Topics upon which we can expect to read your own unique take in future?
I am going on vacation for a few days next month, but after that I will be looking for another job, as I only doing temping in an office at the moment. I only want to do part-time because it gives me more time to write Hubs! As for subjects, I will continue to write about anything that catches my eye. It can be anything that gets my blood flowing, either anger (which involves me yelling full blast at the TV), or something that causes me to get goosebumps, which is usually the new discoveries in archaeology, history, and psychic phenomenon! All of those are my key subjects.
