Insights from an Animal Lover, Mother, and Dedicated Writer
Angela has been writing at HubPages for over three years. Many of her Hubs have been successful both financially and enjoyed by others. She loves to write about animals and unusual subjects.
How did you find HubPages and what made you want to start writing here?
Well, my wonderful aunt (who also writes) introduced me to the site. I chose to stay here because they have a very nice layout, a great community, and it seemed like the best fit for me. I did look at a lot of sites and still do on occasion, but I always end up staying here.
You write about numerous topics. Where do you get your inspiration and what topics are your favorites?
I only write about what I'm interested in or currently learning about. I have some pet Hubs that I wrote because I wanted to learn about the topics myself, and many about some illnesses I personally have, but those are definitely not my favorites. My favorites are ones about pirates, fossils, animals, etc.
I have the interests of a seven-year-old little boy. I always tell my husband: some day I will grow up, but I don't foresee that happening anytime in the future. Fortunately for me, I'm not the only grown person fascinated by these things, so these Hubs actually do quite well.
After belonging to HubPages for almost 4 years, do you have any tips to share with other HubPages writers?
Write what interests you. People can tell if you enjoy what you are writing about. Learn from others; those with more experience can teach you lots. On that note, don't believe everything everyone tells you, because many of the newbies pretend to be knowledgeable but don't have the experience to really know what works.
You have so many interesting and beautiful Hubs. Which two are your personal favorites?
My Hub about Endangered Wild Cats of the Rainforest is definitely one of my favorites, mostly because I find wild cats fascinating. I don't actually get that much traffic to this one, but I loved learning about these fascinating animals.
My other favorite is Alcatraz Prisoners Who Almost Escaped. For one, I absolutely loved writing this. Plus I get a lot of traffic to this one, which is always a positive thing!
You have 176 Hubs and are busy going to school and raising a young daughter. How do you manage to find enough time to write?
Writing for me is therapeutic. I love it, it calms me, it helps me work through my problems. I usually write when I am waiting for my daughter during one of her many events. She is a swimmer and a gymnast, which means I spend a lot of time waiting for her as she practices her events. I also tend to do most my writing at night before bedtime. It calms me, and helps me get ready for bed mentally.
What are your writing goals for the future?
My goals are not lofty, just simple. I do it as a hobby, not as a career, which means I am not trying to achieve anything great. I'm not trying to make a lot of money, just trying to do something I love. Lately, since I have been going through a lot of personal issues, I have spent more time on my blog than I have on HubPages, but I am currently working on four different Hubs that I will eventually publish. I don't write Hubs quickly, so it could take a few weeks before I publish them.
