Happy Wednesday, friends! This week I'd like to take a moment to address the importance of spelling and grammar. As writers, we have a heightened understanding of the importance of language and conveying our thoughts clearly, but we all still make mistakes occasionally. Since spelling and grammar are an important part of how Google assesses quality, it's especially important as online writers to weed out those pesky typos. Below are a few free online tools that can help:

• Grammarly is a great free resource for online writers. It offers grammar and spelling checking as well as a contextual spell checker that determines the correct use of homonyms.
• After the Deadline offers free Firefox and Chrome browser extensions as well as a WordPress plugin. It utilizes natural language processing and intelligent algorithms to generate recommendations, making it a good choice for people with English as a second language and English learners.
• SpellCheckPlus is an extremely quick and simple tool to use. If you don't have a lot of time, this is the tool for you. Just copy and paste your text into the site for a grammar and spelling once-over.

While the sites I've listed above are excellent tools for the busy writer, there's no substitute for another human eye (or 2 or 3). Getting together with fellow writers, whether online or in person, and proofreading each other's work can be the best way to make sure as few errors make it into your final Hub as possible. Try setting up a weekly or monthly editing circle with friends, or even fellow Hubbers. You may be surprised at how much your writing improves! :)
