Staying Healthy, Mentally

We at HubPages hope that everyone is staying safe and healthy during this difficult time. If you are stuck inside, there are a bunch of things you can do to stay sane—such as  Marie Kondo-ing your bookshelves, or, if you have kids, learning how to use E-books for homeschooling purposes. Aside from taking physical precautions, our team has been discussing the many ways to stay well mentally. Here are some practices and resources that we have been utilizing.

General Recommendations

  1. Take everything one day at a time.
  2. Be kind to yourself and others.
  3. It's ok to be scared, bored, angry, sad—just don't let those feelings isolate you. Share them with others as a way of fostering connection and deepening relationships.
  4. Look at this experience as an opportunity to slow down and identify what is most important to you.
  5. Limit exposure to news coverage.
  6. Seek connection and support.

Pro Tips

Take a Break

When you work from home or write for long periods of time, it's important to get up and take a break. One great breaktime activity is walking. During a mid-afternoon slump, taking a walk is a great way to give your brain a boost of serotonin/dopamine and get the creative juices flowing again.

Navigating Parenthood in Japan

Living in lower- and middle-class Alabama as a child and Hawaii and Japan as an adult, this author has been both fortunate and unfortunate to have seen many sides of human life, and they apply what they've learned to their parenting methods. Whether it be learning to let their children handle things on their own or figuring out if it's a good idea to pay children for doing chores, they make good use of their experiences.
