Confluence
Definition: A coming or flowing together, meeting, or gathering at one point.
Origin and Notes: The joining of rivers was the original meaning of the word. In its later meanings, we still relate the word to the physical merging of water. So we can speak of a confluence of events, a confluence of interests, etc., from which something important often emerges.
