Like other network sites, the FeltMagnet editors look for specific things when accepted articles. Straight from the source, here are things to include, be on the lookout for, and things to avoid.
What FeltMagnet editors love:
- Originality: The internet is scattered with all sorts of craft tutorials and ideas; what makes yours unique? Bring new ideas to the table and demonstrate a genuine personal connection to your article.
- Authenticity: If you're writing about a craft you did, make sure you talk about why you made it and include original photos that correspond with each step. If you're writing a piece about an artist you love, give a short statement at the beginning of the article or in the "About the Author Bio" section telling your readers why you're writing this article.
- Organization: Editors encourage articles (especially tutorials) to be organized in a manner that is very easy for the reader to follow along. For example, use lists, numerical steps, or an organized table that displays the list/steps.
- Style: Classic callout capsules can add emphasis or important tips. If you aren't familiar with callouts, refer to the callouts newsletter.
- Aesthetic: Editors recommend that the top image is high quality and ideally includes the peppy/upbeat title in a stylish text. This is easily done in
Canva! Articles with artistic top images tend to have higher social traffic.
- Titles: Titles that follow the peppy/upbeat theme of FeltMagnet gain more readership. Arts and crafts are fun! Tell the world about it in your title.
- Integrity: It's easy to get excited when you find a photo online that you really like for your article, but editors need to ensure photographers are credited correctly. Therefore, it is highly recommended that photos are either yours or are correctly sourced.
- Consistency: Similarly, when it comes to "idea" articles that are compilations of others' original crafts, editors favor those that are high-quality, with preference to authors who have tried the crafts themselves and have their own high-quality photos to share.
