The Best-Sellers of 2022

After a short break, the newsletter is back! We hope you had a happy holiday season and a great start to 2023! Last January, we celebrated the new year by reflecting on the best-selling books of 2021, and we're keeping the tradition by taking a look at those of 2022! Anything marked with an asterisk (*) was on last year's list as well.

Now, without further ado, here are the best-selling books of 2022:

  1. It Ends With Us, Colleen Hoover*
  2. Verity, Colleen Hoover
  3. Where The Crawdads Sing, Delia Owens
  4. It Starts With Us, Colleen Hoover
  5. Ugly Love, Colleen Hoover
  6. The Seven Husbands Of Evelyn Hugo, Taylor Jenkins Reid*
  7. Reminders Of Him, Colleen Hoover
  8. Atomic Habits, James Clear*
  9. November 9, Colleen Hoover
  10. The Very Hungry Caterpillar, Eric Carle

This information was found in this article from Forbes.com that discusses fiction author Colleen Hoover's incredible boost in popularity this year. She undoubtedly ruled the bestsellers list, but a few surprises still snuck through (hello, Very Hungry Caterpillar!).

Pro Tips

Freshen Up Your Vocabulary

With the new year comes new articles, which means you might need some new words! Here is a list of resources you can use to find exciting language for your writing.

  • Merriam-Webster’s Word of the Day: Every day, Merriam-Webster updates this page with a single word and its definition. Sometimes, the words are common (like today’s–genius), and sometimes they are more rare (like January 1st’s–annus mirabilis, meaning “a remarkable or notable year”). Also on this page you can find the history of the word, its specific pronunciation, and a two-minute podcast that summarizes the word’s context. If you’d like your own updates on the word of the day, you can even subscribe to their daily newsletter!
  • Word Frequency Counter: If you tend to accidentally repeat certain words in your writing, this can be a helpful identification tool. Just copy and paste your text into the text box, click "submit," and you will see a list of your most commonly used words. This is especially helpful to use before publishing your articles, as it can point out potential keyword stuffing. If you notice you're using a specific word too frequently, open the thesaurus and find some relevant synonyms to use in its place!
  • Random Word Generator: If you’re looking for a way to incorporate new words into your writing while also practicing your poetry skills, try this random word generator. Challenge yourself by writing a poem that includes all of the words the generator provides (you can set the amount), and see how it turns out! (Maybe even submit it to LetterPile!)
