Site Spotlight: WanderWisdom

Are you having trouble deciding on where to take a vacation this summer? Or do you have a destination in mind but are not sure what to do while there? Well, our travel site, WanderWisdom, offers practically limitless inspiration and information. You can plan your trip with confidence knowing the advice comes from seasoned travelers (and HubPages writers!) who have direct experience with the destination.

If you're unsure of what to do in Doha, Qatar, Temoor Dar has you covered. Are you interested in Central Asia? Check out Jin Choi's reasons why you should travel to Tajikistan. Maybe you've always wanted to explore the United States on the iconic Route 66; if so, Tom Lohr's 12 reasons why you should see the Mother Road will surely inspire you to finally start booking hotels!

WanderWisdom Editorial Policy and What to Write About

As with all of our network sites, we are looking for articles where the authors write from experience and display high levels of trustworthiness, authority, and expertise on the topic. If you are covering an art museum in Melbourne, Australia, it should be evident in the writing that you have physically toured the museum. You don't need to be an expert on the events surrounding 9/11, but if you are writing about visiting the memorial, your opinion on the site and visiting tips should all be based on experience.

  • Original photography is another aspect of a great WanderWisdom article. Original images show exactly what caught your eye and feel much more personal than stock images. If, by chance, your images got ruined or your hand was a little too shaky, sites like Unsplash and Wikimedia Commons have wide selections of photos for locations all over the globe.
  • Map capsules are another element that elevates a travel piece. They give the reader context about where things are and exactly how close or far they are from one another. We advise that you place multiple pins within one capsule as opposed to inserting a map for every location discussed. It looks cleaner and is much easier to read through.

When you're out exploring the world this summer, make sure you snap some photos and take notes (either mental or handwritten) so you can publish your thoughts and images on WanderWisdom. Happy traveling!

Linking Within Articles

We recently posted in the HubPages forums that we will be increasing the use of interlinking within articles in an effort to improve our link architecture. Here are some more details on that front.

Interlinking refers to links leading to other articles published across our network sites (links to YouTube or Amazon or those used as references are considered external because they take the reader away from HubPages sites). The editing team will look for relevant anchor text within the body of the article to add the links to.

For example, if you are writing an article about the history of pasta in Italy, text that reads something like "Rigatoni has always been a favorite style" would be good to hyperlink to an article about different styles of pasta. Text that would not be as helpful would be something like "pasta is popular throughout Italy."

If there are not many opportunities to link within the text, a link capsule at the end of an article may be added.

Note that articles on the same network site will be prioritized, followed by those on other sites. Links to Discover or HubPages will not be considered and are not permitted.

If you already employ hyperlinking within your pieces, thank you!

Anupama: Teacher and Japanophile

This week's fresh face of HubPages is Anupama! Hailing from Chennai, India, Anupama has published articles across several network sites that reflect a love of Japanese language and culture. Check out the articles " Ten Japanese Proverbs for Everyday Life" and " The Curious Similarities Between Japanese and Tamil" to learn more about Anupama's observations after living in both India and Japan and teaching language.
