If I say Wonder Dog, you might think: Lassie? Perhaps: Rin-Tin-Tin?

Or, depending on your age, tastes, media habits or memory: Balto, Grommet, Toto, Benji, White Fang, Beethoven, Sandy, Old Shep, Skippy, Bo, Max, Marley, Greyfriars Bobby, Snoopy, Buddy, Buck, Ol’ Yeller, Underdog, Pete, Lady or The Tramp?

But, no. The true Wonder Dog is the newly arrived Fluffy (by way of Allivine Knitting Mills of Yardley [Morrisville], Pennsylvania). For — you see — Fluffy is not so much a genetically-engineered pet as he is a knittingly-engineered pet. Consisting entirely of only the finest and most durable natural knitting fibers, Fluffy is indeed fluffy! And Fluffy behaves!

You’ll have no more scratched hardwood floors or screen doors; Fluffy’s claws and fangs are soft as cotton! Worried about the new family pet taking a nip at newcomers? Fear not, for this dog’s bite is as cushiony as Grandma’s afghan! Shedding is no longer a problem; just gather up what Fluffy loses, get out your needles, and Dad can have a new scarf for Christmas! And cuddly? There’s nothing better on a bitter winter’s eve than to curl up, fireside, in the downy tufts of Fluffy’s coat!

And, as a unique benefit of this woven canine, you can now match your pup to virtually any décor! With yarn colors available spanning the rainbow, and with new hues like Sage, Biscotti, Seafoam Drift, Rhapsody and Alabaster arriving up all the time, it’ll at last be a cinch for you to have a pet that looks completely in place in your home!

OH MY GOD!! I had a knitted dog like that when I was a little girl. It was peach and matched my room and my grandmother just loved them so she bought one for my sister and I and everyday made our beds and perched that stupid looking thing on my bed. I grimaced every time I looked at it and it just sat there mocking me with its special place in the middle of MY bed. Gee Rick, thanks for the memories...

And, to think, you probably missed out on the ogre in the closet or the knife-wielding rapist under the bed. Shucks. (Hope my other hubs don't creep you out quite as much.)
