    It's a mixed breed dog for which unscrupulous breeders "name" and charge large amounts of money.  Remember, when buying a pure bred dog, people are paying for a stable gene pool.  When breeding two pure breeds together, you don't get a stable gene pool (ie. pups that will pretty much look exactly alike - like in a true breed).  Instead, you get a mixture of the two breeds coming out in all sorts of different ways.  In other words, an unstable gene set.

    There's nothing wrong with mixes.  What's wrong is unscrupulous breeders saying these are "designer breeds" and charging outrageous amounts of money for them.  Mixes are great dogs, but they should be sold as what they are - a mix of a few breeds to many breeds.

    A chiweenie is a cross breed.  It is a mix of a Chihuahua and a Dachshund.

      Great answer. If the Chihuahua and Dachshund were both of superior genetic material and had been screened to avoid all inherited diseases, they would be okay. Unfortunately they are not. A breeder with excellent Chihuahuas will be selling Chihuahuas,
