If you're looking for a simple Easter craft or Easter gift that is totally adorable and costs next to nothing, well, this is for you. Try these super cute, mini Easter baskets and Easter nests which are quick, easy and best of all cheap to make. Your friends will all fall in love with such an adorable gift and if you make a few it's all the more fun for the little ones to discover on their treasure hunt or special surprise spot like a lunch box.
Things you will need.
- A nice dried twig
- A leaf or two
- A needle with a large enough eye to take the wool or twine.
- Scraps of wool or twine
- Crochet hook 4mm-5mm
- 1x mini Easter egg.
For the branch
- Find an small twig with a 'v' shape. If you have a really fine or brittle twig, rest the egg on the 'v' shape of the twig just to make sure it is strong enough to hold the egg. The twig doesn't need to be too strong as there is not a lot of weight to it, only the tiny chocolate egg as the wool weighs virtually nothing.
- Glue on an interesting leaf. Bright colored felt and fabric, pretty, patterned paper, recycled plastic objects cut for leaves look great and a dried leaf looks very authentic. You can glue the leaf to run along the 'v' shape or further up the twig and you don't have to stop at just one....
- Add glitter or ribbon for a really fabulous look.
For the nest.
sc = single crochet.
You can use either
Most of us have scraps of wool or twine lying around that are just perfect for these little Easter baskets.
- string or twine
- 14 ply wool
- 8ply wool doubled.
Use a 4mm - 5mm crochet hook.
- Cast on 3 stitches and join to make a loop.
- Round 1: 6sc in the loop and join the ends.
- Round 2: 2sc in each stitch (=12 stitches)
- Work 4 rounds. Cut the thread and stitch it back into the nest to secure.
- Stitch the nest through the bottom and onto the twig.
- Fluff up a tiny piece of cotton wool or stuffing, tinsel etc and line the nest.
- Stand a small egg in the nest and attach a tiny Easter card hanging from a ribbon.
Variation.
For the nest .
sc = single crochet.
You can use either
- string
- 14 ply wool
- 8ply wool doubled.
Use a 4mm - 5mm crochet hook.

- Round 1: 6sc in the loop and join the ends.
- Round 2: 2sc in each stitch (12 stitches)
- Work 4 rounds. Cut the thread and stitch it back into the nest to secure.
- Instead of stitching it to a twig like in the instructions above, at the end crochet 6 - 8 chain.
- Fold the chain over to create a handle for the basket and stitch to the other side of the basket.
- Decorate the basket as you wish.
- Stand a small egg in the basket and attach a tiny Easter card.
Other ideas
- Stitch in some tiny glass beads for a bit of bling.
- Use thin ribbon for the handle.
- Spray the twig with gold or silver paint first and let dry. Then add the nest.
- Sew three of the nests together to form a bigger nest.
- For a beach theme use a piece fo dried coral with a 'v' instead of a branch. Sew nest on with cotton the same color as the coral or simple hot glue the nest.
- Get some orange or other bright colored wool. Cut into small length and weave one or two times through the nest to look like a little worm.
- For a larger worm plait some wool. sew a bead on the end for the head and weave through the nest.
