How to Find Amazon Best Sellers for your Articles

© 2011 by Aurelio Locsin

Amazon is easily the world’s largest online retailer that can provide income to Hubpage authors. Books, toys, kitchen appliances, computers, clothing and almost any type of product you can name are available on the site’s list.

An easy way to take advantage of this resource is to write about Amazon’s best sellers, not just in books but in any of its products line. You can then put links to those products in your hubs. Here’s how you can find out what those best-selling products are.

1) Go to Amazon’s list of departments. A list of items appears in multiple columns, divided by category. Scroll through the page if necessary to find the category you want to write about.

2) Click the category in which you’re interested. For example, click Toys and Games. The Toys and Games page appears. The page is divided into three columns.

  1. Shopping categories.
  2. Featured categories and deals.
  3. Products.

4) Click the item name to display the item’s descriptive page and find out more information about it. Otherwise, if you want to include this item in your hub, right-click the item name and then choose Copy Link Location from the popup menu. You can then paste this link in the Amazon capsule of your hub.

5) Click See All Best Sellers to display the top 100 best sellers broken into groups of 20.

  • To page through this list, scroll down the web page and click the link for the next group of 20. Note that at the bottom of the web page is the RSS feed for these best sellers.
  • To incorporate this feed into your hub, right click the orange Subscribe link and then choose Copy Link Location from the popup menu. Then paste the link into the RSS Capsule of your hub.

3) Scroll down the page until you find a box entitled Best Sellers in the third column. That title appears in orange, followed by the category Toys & Games in blue and then the line Updated Hourly. You can examine this list every hour to see what new items have become the top ten best sellers.

  • The best selling items have the lowest numbers.
  • The number of days an item has been in the top 100 is also listed.
  • Items with green arrows have increasing sales. Items with red arrows have decreasing sales.
  • The current price of the item on Amazon is also listed.

Great advice that I will put into practice: my Amazon capsules net me a big fat nothing.

Voted up and awesome. Bookmarked too, as I had given up with Amazon, but using it for inspiration is a great idea, as best sellers are likely to attract interested people that may click Amazon links or adverts ... either of which would be nice!

I have very limited sales from amazon so this was helpful. I'm bookmarking it to take a closer look after the holidays. Thanks alocsin!

I couldn't find a box that says "best sellers list". Can you be more specific about where to find it?

Try this rather long link, Pamela. You'll find the Best Sellers box in the right column. Let me know if you're able to find it, or if you need more help. (The Steve Jobs bio is number 1, btw.)

Alocsin, great tips. I never thought about new items. Not only will they be good to include, but they will be fun to find, too. Also, I noticed that you list both the listing price and the Amazon price. It is more persuasive, and I will do it for both my Hubpages and Squidoo (btw this week has been a great sale for me on Squidoo for some unknown reason).

The Amazon stuff is perfect! I love using it to highlight books and other things in hubs. Thanks for a great hub! I am going to incorporate more stuff like this in the future. Votes and buttons. :)

Thanks, I'll get right on it! I'm finally 'getting it', how making money on Hub Pages is possible (for me too). Until now I've just focused on writing good Hub and making friends with Hubbers and feeling comfortable with Hub Pages. I came across your Hub at the right time - in sync with my slow process of learning to be an online writer.

Voting up and useful (and printing the page too).

The problem with using the best sellers list as you have shown is that it is constantly changing on a daily basis. It is much better to use the star rating which shows which products have been bought regularly over time.

Sgbrown, Amazon sales can bring in a nice income if you target the right products.

You're relatively new, GoodLady, and it takes a lot of hubs and a lot learning to start earning income. But keep writing and eventually the money will come.

Hi Aurelio,

I am in the same position as all the above.

Zero sales on Amazon. I just use them to improve the layout of the hub.

With this new advice I will try this method.

I do get sales from eBay?

Awesome hub interesting and useful.Sharing.

I have gotten sales from both Amazon and eBay. I created an RSS feed for the bestsellers to put on my Twitter account. So far it is bringing lots of clicks. That will turn into more sales. I made a total of $30 from both sites so far. I am looking forward to more.

That is interesting, davenstan, that you are able to sell on Twitter. Perhaps you should write a hub on it because this is totally unfamiliar to me.

Good luck Maralexa, let me know how it goes. I manage to get a few sales each month from Amazon.

That might be a worthy subject for a hub, davenstan.

Thank You, alocsin.
