How to Get More People to Find Your Hub - Increase Page Views Quickly - Posterous.com

DISCLAIMER

Please read this page here before actually reading the hub. This is very important. I was in for a little (?) disappointment from this news because I got to know about it only after completing the hub. All the same if you want to get the most out of Posterous within a short time, you may do so. I don't want anyone to waste their time here, hence this disclaimer.

But I would also like to tell you that you may get a fair idea about creating backlinks and attracting traffic even if you are not going to spend time on creating a Posterous account. You'll be able to understand this better if you read this disclaimer once again after reading the entire hub should you decide to.

First Impression

When I joined HubPages, my only intention was to develop my writing skills and make the most of this wonderful platform by sharing my knowledge as well as to gain more knowledge from the other hubbers here. As I started writing I learned about the ways by which I could make an extra income by writing. Of course I did not last long here because my primary focus was on my freelance writing projects, so I left abruptly.

I returned to Hub Pages only recently with a determination to establish myself as a good writer and win more friends while building a strong foundation for a residual income maybe a year or two later. For this to happen I knew that I should have many hubs to my credit. I have started making hubs at my own pace. Even if I have a good number of hubs, they should get lots of views for me to make more money. How do I accomplish this task?

My experiments

I started experimenting with all the knowledge I got from reading several hubs and by reading elsewhere online as to what should be done to get increased visibility for my articles. I found that there is a great way to do this and started trying it out. I found that even with the few hubs that I had, page views increased. Although the monetary aspect did not improve greatly (of course the number of cents per day increased), I realized that with a larger number of hubs and by using this method I would be able to accomplish the task of making money. Here's what I have been following since my come-back to Hub Pages.

Posterous

Here I'm going to give you a step-by-step method of this simple procedure that will help you with gaining increased traffic as well as building links.Though it is very simple, initially it will take a little time to create accounts. Once you are done creating the accounts, your work will stop with sending a single email and get your article posted in all the places where you have created accounts. Now for the method:

  • Go to posterous.com and create an account. You will have to create many more accounts at different sites, so I suggest that you use the same username and password to avoid confusion.
  • Signing up at Posterous is very simple and will not take much time. But the steps after this are time-consuming. Not too much but if you already have Facebook, Twitter, Blogger and WP accounts then this work is a breeze. Even otherwise, setting up each account should take a maximum of fifteen minutes. You can go back and set up your blog as per your choice later. You just need to create an account first. Moreover, if you think of the ease of posting to several websites at one click after setting up all the accounts, this should not intimidate you.
  • After the usual email confirmation login to your Posterous account. You will find the "Manage Spaces' icon to the left of the Posterous profile page. Click the icon. The page that opens is titled "Your Spaces".
  • Below this you'll find your profile name and to its right as shown in the image, there is a drop-down menu. Click the 'Autopost setup' that is highlighted in the image.

Source

Source

All in one account

  • The auto post setup when clicked opens another page with a "+ Add a service" icon. Click this button. You'll find many icons such as Blogger, Twitter, Facebook, WordPress and Tumblr. Start adding all the services mentioned one by one.
  • Blogger: Create a new blogger account giving it a suitable title. Go back to Posterous and click on the Blogger button. A small box opens and at the bottom you'll find a "Link". button. Click this and you'll be asked to authorize Posterous to link to your blogger account.
  • Twitter: Create a twitter account and give in the login details on Posterous and link the account to twitter.
  • WordPress: Creating a WordPress blog will take you no more than 5 minutes. Complete your email verification and furnish the login details on Posterous so that the WordPress account is linked to Posterous.
  • Facebook: Add the Facebook service too.
  • Tumblr: Create a new Tumblr account and add the account details here.
  • LinkedIn: If you have a LinkedIn account you can link it to Posterous.
  • Flickr and YouTube: Pictures and videos posted to Posterous will be auto posted to Flickr and YouTube respectively. So create accounts here too.

I am aware that my screenshot images are not very clear but they give you a rough idea about what to do next. I hope you are able to follow.

The various accounts to link to

Source

Linking to your Blogger.com account

Source

You have now created all the relevant accounts and linked them to your Posterous account. Now you are ready to post your article to Posterous.com. As soon as you click the 'Publish' button on your hub, copy and paste the title, summary, hub URL and the tags onto a text document. Save this text document because you will be posting the summary of your hub to a few other article sites. I will be giving you these details in another hub, so saving this text document will be helpful later.

Submitting to Posterous

Open your email account that you have used to log in to Posterous with and click 'compose'. The email should be sent to "post@posterous.com".

Paste the title of your hub in the subject column of your mail. In the body of the mail, paste the summary or the opening paragraph of your hub. Type 'keep reading' or 'continue reading' and link this phrase to your hub URL.

You'll get an acknowledgment from Posterous within a few minutes. When you do this for the first time, log in to Posterous and check if the first post is published. Similarly login to all the other accounts like Blogger and WordPress and check. The article summary is posted with a link back to your hub.

This helps bring a variety of traffic through all these accounts and you save a lot of time by this single-post submission to Posterous as it auto posts to six websites except for Flickr and YouTube where only pictures and videos are posted.

Benefits of a Posterous account

  • You post the summary of your article on Posterous.com and the auto posting feature helps in many web 2.0 properties getting content instantly.
  • Attractive themes to set up your account with.
  • The auto post feature allows you to post your article on many web 2.0 properties like blogger.com, wordpress and tumblr saving you a lot of time in building backlinks to your hub. Normally, if you were to post a summary of your article on each of these websites and link to your hub, it would take a very long time.
  • Logging in to the site, creating a post by copying and pasting the title, summary and the hyperlink will certainly take a lot of your time. On the contrary, on Posterous, you simply need to give your login details of each of these accounts and authorize Posterous to post the article summary to them with just a single email to Posterous.
  • Backlinking gets easier with Posterous.
  • More traffic can be expected to reach your main website.
  • Posterous is a very powerful site (PR7), so getting a backlink from this site provides greater credibility to your hub.
  • In short, Posterous is an efficient SEO tool that helps you increase your earnings on HubPages by the increased traffic to your hub. The same method can be used to increase traffic to your websites too.

Points to note

  • Make sure that you create relevant accounts on Blogger, WordPress, Twitter, Facebook and Tumblr before adding those services on Posterous.
  • If you already have these accounts it is fine because it will save you a lot of your precious time. You can simply link them to your Posterous account.
  • Give the login details of all these services on Posterous and allow it to auto post to them as and when you send an email to Posterous.
  • When you send an email to Posterous, you may remove your name as it is not necessary.

Posterous acquired by Twitter

So far I explained all the benefits of having an account with Posterous. However, there are a few shortcomings too. I found that whenever I sent an email to posterous.com there was a quick increase in traffic to my hubs but after a while, it gradually decreased. So you can't expect continuous streams of traffic from this account. I found this in my experience. Should any of you try out this method of backlinking and traffic generation, please post your findings and suggestions if any in the comments below for the benefit of everyone on HubPages.

There are many more accounts on Posterous than I have detailed here on this hub. Xanga is one of them and I still don't understand why I could never join this site despite repeated efforts. The signup process is very simple but once I type in all my details, there appears an 'error' message. Auto posting is done on Xanga too, so let me know about this website if you happen to try out this method.

On a final note I would like to say that it helps to use Posterous to promote your hubs and build backlinks easily and by ethical means. Good luck!

Thanks Aravind for reading and commenting. Hope you read the disclaimer paragraph before reading the hub. But there are people who say that nothing is going to happen to Posterous Spaces even though it has been taken over by Twitter.

Thanks again. Cheers, Rema

Hi Janine,

Thanks ever so much for the visit and the comment. I am sure you read through the first disclaimer paragraph that I actually added after completing the hub.

Officially Posterous has been taken over by Twitter but it is suspected that Posterous users may have to move out.

In such a case you can still take the idea of linking your hubs manually to Blogger , WordPress and Tumblr accounts without creating a Posterous account. Many of us are already using Facebook and Twitter for traffic.

Now I am having second thoughts about keeping this hub published. Do I or should I let readers take the linking to web 2.0 properties idea from this hub leaving out the Posterous account? This is a very tough decision to make. I will wait for maybe a day and then decide.

Thanks again for your kindness Janine. Cheers, Rema.

Hi suk91,

Thanks for stopping by. As I mentioned in this hub, I have very few hubs to my credit and despite this, my views increased by a few hundreds in the first two weeks. My views increased by about a thousand in about a month which has never happened before. If you have a lot of hubs the increase will be a lot more I think. I can confirm this only if I see it for myself but that will take some time. Cheers, Rema.

Hi mmsu,

My pleasure, the only downside to Posterous now being its acquisition by twitter (my disclaimer at the beginning of the hub). Hope Posterous Spaces are allowed to continue just as they are now. No one can guarantee this. If at all something happens, we can create backlinks by linking our hubs manually to Blogger, WP and Tumblr. Thanks for stopping by. Cheers, Rema.

remaniki profile image

remaniki 4 years ago from Chennai, India Author

Thank you very much Patty. Glad you liked the hub. Yes, you can wait to see what happens to Posterous before joining. Until then I suggest that you create the individual accounts on Blogger and WP and start posting the summary of your hubs on them linking them to your hub.

Once you know that Posterous is here to stay, then you simply need to create only the Posterous account and then start sending them a single email.

Of course manually posting the summary is a little time-consuming but once you have the accounts created, it is going to take five minutes for each account posting, that's it. Maybe you could give it a try. Just a suggestion.

Thanks again for your votes. Cheers, Rema.

This is an interesting and useful idea to link your hub to other social networking sites. It seems like this program will help you do it quickly. I think you should leave this hub up as long as this feature is available. I don't see why Twitter would acquire a site and then take away a valuable functionality unless they were going to replace it with another (hopefully better) one.

remaniki profile image

remaniki 4 years ago from Chennai, India Author

I agree with you Shasta on the possibility of twitter letting this exclusive functionality be. I don't see any reason why they should remove it.

But from what people are discussing on forums (these people seem quite experienced in such matters; they seem to have gone through bad times having had to shift their blogs elsewhere even before), it looks like the worst might happen. But we can't say so for sure.

I would never have set out to create this hub had I known about this earlier. I mean to say that I believe in giving my readers something very useful when it comes to such important hubs. I got to know about it only after I completed the hub when looking for a video for my hub and you can imagine my thoughts when I came across the news.

I didn't want my hard work to go waste, so I decide to publish this hub with a disclaimer because some people may decide to use this facility even for the short time it may be available.

If not Posterous, at least create Blogger and WP accounts and upload only the summary of your hubs linking back to your hub. It will surely help.

Thanks for the visit Shasta. Cheers, Rema.

I think though that the underlying facts of your article - that we should put links to our hubs on other sites is a good one. This was just one way of doing it. Doing it manually might take a little bit longer, but it might even be better, because there wouldn't be any risk of duplicate content, and you could customize the description to appeal to the differences in the readers on the different sites.

remaniki profile image

Thanks very much Dinkan for the encouraging comment. There are some other powerful web properties where our hub summary can be posted for more backlinks and traffic and after trying out a few more of them I want to publish another hub with the information.

Is sharing separately with FB and Twitter not required?

I always thought on Bloggers I have to write blogs on any topic of my choice but can I share my articles written here with Bloggers just like we do with FB and Twitter.

Hope you won't mind to explain it. Sharing socially. Good Luck!

Great information. This could save a lot of time when trying to get traffic to our hubs. I am going to check out the website and may give this a try. Voted up and interesting!

remaniki profile image

remaniki 4 years ago from Chennai, India Author

Hi Brett,

Sorry for the delay in responding. Had to meet a deadline in my writing assignment. To be very honest, I don't get the traffic that I got from Posterous initially. In fact it is close to a negligent number now.

Of course the acquisition had been announced in March/April but I didn't receive any notification from them, so I never got to know about this. Only after I published this hub I got to know about it when I was looking for a good video to support my hub.

I am sure that the decline in traffic is mainly because people have already started shifting their blogs from Posterous to elsewhere. Now I am wondering if I should unpublish this hub so that I won't feel guilty of giving some wrong information to fellow hubbers. But there is still hope and consolation.

Your work won't go waste because instead of posting to Facebook and Twitter manually and to the other blogger, WP and Tumblr accounts, all these accounts will be updated by sending a single email to your Posterous account. I find this so useful and it saves a lot of my time.

My intention was good when I started this hub, I was very excited that I was going to give people some great information but I feel disappointed now.

So I think the conclusion here is that you should not depend on Posterous (Now) to get you lots of traffic because in my case I have seen it decline with more and more people disowning Posterous in the forums.

But I reiterate the fact that it wont be a waste of time if you set up accounts on Posterous so that you get to save a lot of time in future for automated posting to social media and web 2.0 properties.

Hope I have answered your question Brett. Thanks for the visit. cheers, Rema.

remaniki profile image

remaniki 4 years ago from Chennai, India Author

Hi Shampa,

Thanks a lot for visiting and for the great questions. You hit the nail on the head with your question. Now there are problems with Posterous but if you open an account with Posterous and send them an email with a summary of your hub immediately after publishing it, (not only your hub any online work that you want to propagate for that matter) you don't have to go to FB and twitter and post manually. It becomes automated.

Very simple. So I suggest that you open this account if not for the views, at least for its ease of use.

Now for the blogger and WordPress accounts, open a blogger account and WP account. As soon as you finish publishing your hub, post the summary of the article there as I have done here: http://remahubber.blogspot.in/

You'll have many page views and if people are interested in your topic, they will visit your hub for reading more. Same with WP and Tumblr too. These are all powerful sites with a high Page Rank, so creating these accounts are worthwhile. Moreover with Posterous you are not going to post the summary of your hub manually. All these accounts will be updated instantly as you send a single email to Posterous. Hope this explanation helps Shampa.

If you need to know anything else, please email me through HP mail.

Cheers, Rema.

Dear Rema,

This hub helped some things click in place for me... I have a blog with WordPress that I had not thought of linking my hubs to...and I have seen other friends do this on their sites.

I appreciate the responsible manner in which you gave this information, the disclaimer information for those thinking of pursuing Posterous at this point.

Thank you. Voted UP & UI. Hugs, Maria

remaniki profile image

Oh, Thanks Maria for your kind words. It would be very useful for you to link your hubs to your WordPress account. Till such time Posterous is alive, we can make good use of it because with a single email our blogger, WP, Tumblr, FB and twitter will all get posted with the summary of our hubs.

This is the only reason I published this hub even after knowing about the acquisition as it will make things simpler for hubbers.

Thanks for all the votes too. Cheers and hugs, Rema.

Thank you very much Alecia for the wonderful feedback. Posterous is a very powerful blogging site with a high PR that helps us get our articles posted to several websites through a single email. Isn't this such an easy method instead of posting our hubs to blogger and WP manually one by one?

This is where Posterous is very helpful but for the latest acquisition by Twitter that may or may not affect the current position of Posterous. Anyway till such time there are changes if any, we can make good use of the site to promote our hubs.

Thanks again Alecia. Cheers, Rema.

Thanks Mohan for the visit and the appreciation. Posterous has been around for quite some time now (about 4 plus years) and I have used it for link building in the past but tried using it to promote my hubs only very recently.

Unfortunately, due to the recent acquisition by Twitter, many people, as told by them on several forums, have decided to remove their blogs from Posterous due to which we may not get good amount of traffic to our hubs.

Yet, the facility to auto post to several web 2.0 properties and social media accounts can be used to the best advantage helping us in building links. Though my primary objective to increase page views was not fully met by this latest turn of events, we can still use the account because of its ease of use.

Thanks again Mohan. Cheers, Rema.

remaniki profile image

Hi Mary,

Please do create an account at Posterous that can be used as long as it exists. It makes your job of posting to Blogger and WordPress very easy as you simply have to send a single email to Posterous. Your hub summary with a link to the full article gets auto-posted on Facebook, Twitter, Blogger, WP and others.

This reduces our work load a lot and saves time too. Please try it out, you'll find it very useful.

You say that you already have Blogger and WordPress accounts. If you link these accounts to Posterous, then these accounts will get auto-posted with your hub summary and you can expect to get more traffic to your hubs.

Thanks for the visit Mary. Cheers, Rema.

Thank you very much Rajan for the good feedback. Even though Posterous has been acquired by Twitter and there was a doubt in the minds of people about the efficient functioning of Posterous, it still continues to do what it used to do before it was taken over by Twitter.

So I continue to use it but must admit that though the functioning part is okay, traffic from this source has decreased presumably because many Posterous accounts have been moved due to the Twitter acquisition.

All the same, I do get traffic from FB and Blogger more than from any other source, so auto posting does help to a great extent. Thanks again. Cheers, Rema.
