Just loving KeyWords! Broad, Exact, or Phrase? what should it be?
How about "numerous?" Though you can go overboard there, too, and get flagged. But I usually have a dozen or so keywords, as every relevant point is an opportunity to draw in a reader.
I do try to avoid annoying keyword calls, though--I don't want to annoy a reader by luring them to my Hub on selling my house--alert: made up example; I don't have such a Hub!--just because I mentioned the resident cat in paragraph 3 and then foolishly put 'cat' as a keyword. In other words, I try to keep it reasonably relevant to the best of my ability. (I recognize, however, that you can't anticipate every eventuality.)
If you're referring to using the keyword research tool provided by Google, you need to use the "Exact" selection.
The other two refer to searches where the keywords are used along with other words.
Exact will tell you searches for those words EXACTLY and ALONE.
Keywords are a constantly changing thing, so you really have to do the research to know for sure.
But 'longtail' as in 4 or 5 words are going to give you good results since they are likely to have less competition.
But again it all depends on the subject and the research.

After using this tool for a couple of years, I can't believe I don't know this but what's the difference in the "exact match" and the "broad match?" Is the "broad match" complete useless? I'm finding things on the Keyword Tool that the "broad" has 18,00...

I have been here on HP over 3 years, and still don't fully comprehend the concept! I get that they are words and/or phrases that reflect the content of your article, aren't tags, and that they're not to be 'stuffed'. Apparently I have some block to this, since some of my articles have...

Greetings fellow hubbers! My hub about chronic pain used to have a nice score in the 80's and since tweaking it a few weeks ago, the score is stuck in the 70's. I think it was over-tweaked and now I'm at a loss as to how to fix it. Please, I humbly ask for your opinions to give it the "Extreme...

There are tons of hubs on keyword selection and the various tools one could use to make the process easier. But, like most things 'net - they are mostly copies of copies of copies or poorly strewn together theories by intermediate writer-marketers ..So I ask... what was truly masterful, what made...
