Do I need to submit my hubs' URLs to various search engines?

   Do I need to submit my hubs' URLs to various search engines?
   
   I've come across this suggestion at many places that to gain more visibility on the internet you need to submit your hubs to search engines...is it true?
   If yes, do I need to submit only my profile page URL or all the hubs individually?
   Right now, I use only Google Webmaster and there too I've linked only my profile page URL.
   
   Advice please.

   You've asked a good question. I am no expert but this is what I've learnt in two months. There are 3 schools of thought -
   
   1. You don't need to do it if your articles are original, useful, smart in SEO and have good titles. These articles attract backlinks naturally and will rise up through the rankings if you promote them on social sites and so on.
   
   2. You need to do it but only once. Submit your url to google and bing as these two carry the rest. Never pay to submit url's when you can do it for free. Ping your url using the many ping sites.
   
   3. Submit to as many as you can but only once.
   
   I'm in the same boat as you, with little working knowledge of search engines. At present I follow school 2 but would prefer it if I could just write, share, promote and let nature do the rest. Not being a scientist or statistic geek I don't know if submitting has resulted in higher rankings for my hubs.
   You'd have to write two similar hubs, submit one but not the other, share them,promote them, and follow their progress.
   
   Some of my hubs are page 1, others page 2, and others have some work to do!
   
   The best of luck, perhaps someone with definite know how will come to the rescue.

      I personally believe the #1 school of thought is applicable. I'm not sure, but I get few traffics from Bing, and I didn't do anything to index my page.
      
      Nonetheless, I really want to know the real case.

   You need to get some backlinks and the search engines will find your hubs automatically. They follow the links and index all websites they find.

   I go to webmaster tools and add my URL each time I make a new hub or if I update a hub. I think this helps. ktrapp explains it on her hub.

   Submitting your new hub's url to search engines helps speed up the process of the search engines indexing your page. In other words, if you publish a new hub and submit the link to google/bing, then they will index it more quickly. If you don't submit it, they should index it in a few days.
   
   So you don't NEED to submit your new hub urls, but it is beneficial, just like you don't need to promote your hubs on twitter/facebook, but it is very beneficial!
   
   I usually submit my new hubs to google/bing, and then promote them on twitter/stumbleupon/digg, and also ping them. Sometimes I do more if i really like the hub i wrote, or sometimes I do less if I am busy. Hope this helps!
