How does one measure progress and is slow motion a factor?

Yes, slow motion is a factor. We have a limited view of time and don't realize how things progress, don't see the groundwork being laid and the eventual result.

I've tried slow motion, it doesn't work for me.

Could it be that we are impatient to work out the result of our progress?

Sometimes we do move slowly which puts off our progress. I am guilty of that. But patience along with steady, consistent work is the key. Real progress definitely seems to come slowly even when we are working very hard.

You nailed it, consistency in everything plus notably also is the slow nature of the results
