I ping my blogs, profiles, and sites every day I update them. I only do it once, seeing as some people claim if you overdo it, it can cause problems with the site you're pinging- they don't like it or something.

I ping my hubs using pingomatic.com when I publish or edit them. It definitely makes a difference, although my traffic figures are low they are growing slowly.

Some people (SEO experts) said pinging was dead about a year ago or more.
But it still works for me.
Don't use the same pingers over and over though, vary it up a bit.

I use Pingoat right now to ping my hubs. Is there any other good ping sites to use? I have also used Ping-o-matic

I use Pingoat, Auto Pinger and Blog Buzzer.
      BUT...I always ping Technorati manually.
I noticed some automated services actually missed them.

very nice tips , although I ping my blog posts using a plug-in I never thought about pinging hubs , but isn't this done by hubpages automatically every time you publish a hub ?

It may very well be (like Blogger pings Weblogs)but you don't know what HP is pinging.
      Various services ping different sites.

Typically pinging is used to alert the search engines that a site has been updated and has new content available.  My experience with Hubpages is that it gets crawled by Google frequently enough that new Hubs get indexed within a few hours or a day, so there is not much reason to bother pinging.
