How Are Glaciers Formed And How Do They Move Exactly?
Glaciers are formed when snow accumulates more rapidly than the run off, or melting, and because when ice forms its molecules expand and thus this causes movement. With the help of gravity, the ice moves over the ground and forms a pattern. The melting of ice, glaciers, ice bergs, in recent years has caused a lot of speculation and panic about severe climatic changes and even polar shifts. Many glaciers have melted away and much of the regions in the norther hemisphere are becoming devoid of ice and increasing the amount of water, which may account for greater pressures on the surface structure of the earth, and according to scientists, causes more and greater earth quakes.
Glacier are formed by the large sheets of ice and snow mounded up being pulled down or should I say pulled flat by altitude vs gravity as they advance across the land they pluck rocks n gravel etc think of their movement like a conveyor belt or a tank tread and as it rolls forward it will pick up pebbles toaster sized rocks sand grains and boulders bigger than a house. The rocks stones etc moved and set down are calleratics - if a glacer is stalled and stopps moving south/east west etc it will drop its rocks off and create a morraine cape cod and long island-are this pile of rocks...
