   I believe they do it for the most part to get free room and board.  Besides they get 3 free squares a day, plus paid medical care - complements of the warden! (;  Can you think of another reason of not wanting to rob a bank today? For the reasons I just stated?

      Some do it for this reason: some place to live.  Some, just for the thrill of it.  Others, because they are desperate for cash.  Not worth the risk in the long run.

      Yes, unfortunately prisons have become to comfortable besides the crime that goes on in them but those are use to crime anyway.  Prisons should have way more solitude and they should attempt to counsel and change these people..all can't be saved but

   Two years ago, my bank was robbed.  They have not yet caught the person.  Otherwise, who knows what they are thinking.  The odds of getting away are slim.

   Immediate satisfaction!  Take the money and make a mad dash to their local crack dealer.  Smoke, smoke, and smoke until the bank roll is gone and then go rob another bank to get more crack.  They continue this circle until they get caught or their heart stops.

   My personal opinion Seanelovin, there are people who become so desperate with  circumstances in life, they just don't care. When you believe you have nothing, you have nothing to lose. Otherwise, they are clearly idiots.

      Yes I would agree with the latter response.  But hope exists even in the darkest moments, I have seen it personally.  But again those people are the ones who really don't think things through or like you said don't care.

   Too many people have watched too much television and believe they know all the security protocols regarding guards, video cameras, silent alarms, dye packs, marked bills etc. But they do not know half of the security that is involved. We had a few robberies in my city, the robbers usually got very little because the safe is kept closed and locks when the alarm goes off and traffic here is so bad, they better not plan on a fast getaway. They are looking for the easy way out, either a way to get to a federal prison instead of a state prison, or somehow think they are going to win the lottery so to speak. They give little thought of the consequences.

   On a funny note: It is hope over experience... .These bunch of people hope that they can pull it off, when statistics suggest otherwise....
   
   The more interesting question for me would be, if we can get these guys mainstream.. After all they have the guts to rob a bank and also some IQ to plan it... :-)

   I think it is largely a combination of desperation, ignorance, and really what are they losing? If they have already come to a point on their life that they need to rely on robbing banks, what really do they have left in life? Jail won't really be that big of a thing at that point because they have essentially already lost at life

    I think as Savio Dawson that is the hope that determines them to try it. Think about the Lotto player, how many of us play, even if they know the statistics. And mathematically speaking, with great planning, investment and IQ, statistically is way more likely to get away with bank robbery than win to Lotto. At least at a bank robbery there many things that can be calculated and planned, whereas at Lotto there is only luck....

       The lotto has low investment and low risk versus bank robbery.  Today communication is too rapid for the pros to outweigh the cons in robbing banks.  We no longer live in the old days where robbing a bank was like stealing a piece of candy.

    Most of them aren’t very smart, are they?  If they were a little smarter, they would at least leave a note.  For example, if they took $10,000, they would leave a promissory note that says ‘I owe you $10,000’.  That way, they couldn’t be convicted of theft, but only an unauthorized “novation” (exchanging one debt for another), and maybe use, or threatened use of a weapon.
    
    But the real crooks are the banks since they have stolen far, far more from the people through unconscionable and undisclosed contracts than all the bank robbers in history - caught or not.

       I believe you are meaning investment banks and not your regular banks.  Although, they have done no harm.  In investment, probable high return has high risk.  It's that simple.  Now madoffs are a different case.

       Regular banks also. Banks don’t loan money they already have . They take the note you sign and monetize it (convert it to dollars).  The bank has no less money afterwards. The crime is in the deception and when they get you to re-pay it with interest

    Umm, if you think they all get caught then you are seriously misinformed. Tons get away with it. Just a couple of years ago the bank next door to my work was robbed, the guy took the bag...ran across the parking lot into the woods and was never seen again. Happens ALL the time.
    What on earth makes you think they all get caught?

    In the last city I lived in, two bank robberies (at the SAME small bank branch) were never solved.  They probably left with more free candy than money...but still. If anything, I think movies and TV depict more security than there actually is at most small branches. 
    
    At the big main branch downtown, you'd probably get caught the same day if you ever made it out the door. Really depends on the size and location of the building.

       That is true too...small banks are the ones that are an exception.  We had a small bank get robbed and the guy got away on a BICYCLE.  Yes a bicycle, simply because it was literally in the middle of nowhere.  But the probability of getting caught is

    Banks, stores, etc. are places to hit for quick cask nothing big 200-400 dollars, criminals know that bank jobs don't pay off. But if you need money to keep a coke dealer from cutting off your hands off, anything with a cash register is an ally; post offices, restaurants, etc. Also, the super permanent die they use has been part of a classic scam for a long time, called the Nigerian 419. Now I have the specifics written somewhere but the solvent formula is pretty much acetone, hydrogen peroxide, and 1/2 of previous parts bleach. Leave the Government to tell it, dye is permanent, armored cars are un-robbable, and your safe walking around at night. In my experiences its best to stick pimps, rich women, rich black men, and rappers because they often carry precious metals which can be reformed to be less conspicuous bars, nuggets, etc. If its ever late/dark and someone asks you what time it is its so they can see your hands, just run don't fight we want easy money not gratification. Now if you do fall for this and you don't have a watch check your phone and they might just snatch that and run, in which case Iphones and shit have recovery functions to get it back. The only other people worth robbing are jewelers/goldsmiths and jewelery stores. The way this works is two man team enters building face concealed one is armed with a fire arm the other a hammer and bear mace. All the employee's and customers get sprayed and man 1 smashes cases while  man 2 duffles the merchandise just in case one of the employees (who should be blind for a day or more) hits the alarm the men will be gone within 45 - 30 seconds. Answer your questions? Necessity, addiction, and peer pressure (most robberies are group efforts) are all motives of robbers who get caught.
