Okay everybody, get your calendars out and get ready to plan your weekend dates for January 2012!! I have put together the hottest movie picks for January 2012. It is sure to be a fascinating year for the movie industry. There's lots of new horrors, dramas, action and adventure to keep you busy all year long!!
There's also some sequels to hit movies coming out as well--some greatly anticipated so grab your Sharpie and let's get to it! Don't have a 2012 calendar yet? Shame on you!
January 2012
Jan 6--The Devil Inside (horror/thriller) starring Fernanda Andrade, Simon Quarterman and Evan Helmuth is based on a true story. That for me is scary enough.
An "Exorcist-style" movie, I was shifting in my seat watching the trailer !...I'm going to make myself watch it. It's scary people, a must see.
Jan 6-Roadie (drama) starring Lois Smith, David Margulies, and Bobby Canavale is about a jilted rock star who returns home to live with his mother. Lots of things have changed back at home he finds out. Like his childhood sweetheart being married.
It's life...on widescreen. Looks promising, but you can make your own call on this drama after watching the trailer...
Jan 13 - Contraband (crime/thriller) starring Mark Wahlberg, Giovanni Ribisi and Kate Beckinsale. Mark Wahlberg plays Chris Farraday, a working man with financial woes. Trying to stay on the straight and narrow, he gets caught up and well, the whole mess just snowballs.
A must see, action-packed movie, you'll definitely want to buy tickets for this bad-guy-turns-good-guy-turns-bad-guy-again movie....whoa!
Jan 13 - Joyful Noise (comedy/musical) starring Queen Latifah, Dolly Parton and Keke Palmer. A movie with Queen Latifah and Dolly Parton is, well, funny!! Nothing but love, laughs and good 'ole gospel in this movie.
Great for the whole family to watch--you'll be hand-clapping and toe-tapping just from the trailer! Sing on!
Jan 20 - Underworld: Awakening 3D (action/fantasy/horror) starring Kate Beckinsale, Michael Ealy , India Eisley and we're hearing maybe Scott Speedman.
Okay, if you're a die hard Underworld fan like me, then you'll be doing cartwheels just at the thought of another Underworld movie. Yes, Underworld fans, it's time to kick vampire and Lycan and now...human butt!! Alright, so basically we humans find out vampires and werewolves are real and then, well, we do what us humans are best at...try to destroy them, you know wipe them out. Problem is, Selene and the clans are so not going for it. So you know, they battle and well, you get the idea....problem is, there's something bigger and badder out there. OH! Did I mention it was in 3D? Wicked.
Jan 20 - Haywire (action/thriller) starring Gina Carano, Ewan McGregor, Michael, Douglas, Antonio Banderas, Bill Paxton and Michael Fassbender. They should have called this movie "hell hath no fury like that of a woman's scourn"!
Gina Carano, a MMA fighter in real-life, plays Mallory Kane, a hell-on-wheels kick-ass soldier that gets played by the very side she's working for and that just plain pisses her off. Just stay out of her path...
Jan 20 - Red Tails (drama/adventure/action) starring Cuba Gooding, Jr., Terrance Howard, Nate Parker, Ne-Yo, Method Man, and rising actor David Oyelowo (Rise of the Planet of the Apes).
Well, for me, any movie that has Terrance Howard in it, I want to see (Ooo, la la)! But hey, aside from that, Red Tails, directed by George Lucas is a great inspiring film about the heroics of a group of Black soldiers who just wanted to fight for their country. In awe-inspiring George Lucas-style, it shows the solidarity of soldiers and the struggles of being Black in the military. A must see for both veterans and non-veterans alike.
Jan 27 - The Grey (drama/action) starring Liam Neeson, Dermot Mulroney, and Frank Grillo. What makes this a must-watch movie for me is that these things really could happen!
You really could be on a plane...that crashes in the middle of nowhere...group up with other survivors..try to make your way to civilization...and be hunted down by a pack of hungry wolves....hey, I'm watching it.
Jan 27 - One for the Money (romantic comedy) starring Katherine Heigl, Jason O'Mara, Daniel Sujata and John Leguizamo. Funny. Hilarious.Divorced and unemployed, Katherine Heigl plays Stepanie Plum who has the "luck" of finding a job at her cousin's bail-bond office. Unbeknownst to her, one of the cases she has to bring in happens to be her ex. How tantalizingly humorous!
Follow her on her journey of becoming a bail-bondsman while plundering her way to capture her ex. Great fun for everyone.
Jan 27 - We Need To Talk About Kevin (thriller/drama) starring Tilda Swinton(The Chronicles of Narnia), John C. Reilly and Ezra Miller. This movie is a nightmare-come-to-life for any parent. You're so happy about bringing another life into the world and he turns out to be the anti-Christ. It sends shivers up my bones and every parent will be walking away from this movie wondering if they did something wrong?! Something to think about...
**The trailer shown below is the UK version (they were privileged enough to watch it in 2011), but it will release in limited theaters on January 27th here in the US.
UK Trailer, because it portrays the storyline better
Jan 27 - Man On a Ledge (thriller) starring Sam Worthington, Elizabeth Banks, Jamie Bell and Anthony Mackie. At first glance it reminds you a little bit of the movie Phonebooth, but with a clever twist. Pretty much the same scenario, cop tries to talk man out of killing himself, meanwhile there's a complex jewelry heist going on, get it? The Man on the Ledge is the distraction? So he can prove he's innocent?
Oh, just watch the trailer. You'll get it.
Well that's it for January 2012!! These are Stayingalivemoma's picks for the hottest movies and not an all-inclusive list. Stayed tuned for February 2012!! Hope you enjoyed it!
