Top Chef: Last Chance Kitchen 7

Updated on January 18, 2012

Last Chance Kitchen

The rules are the same. If you get booted from Top Chef Texas, you have one last chance to redeem yourself. Patti has sung her last encore and has left the building. The only thing left is the food and Tom Colicchio to judge if you really have what it takes to be Top Chef.

Beware, there are spoilers below!

The episode begins with a montage of Heather harassing Bev, just in case we didn’t see enough during the last episodes. Heather’s elimination hurts ‘real bad’, but she gets a new lease on life when she reads Tom’s letter. It says, “Mistakes are meant to be fixed.” Maybe he meant her personality, but there won’t be enough time on this show to fix that.

Heather walks in and Nyesha is glad to see her. Not because she likes her, as all the previous champions had in the past, but because she didn’t approve of Heather’s condescending behavior towards Bev. There aren’t any shots of Nyesha standing up for Bev, but some clips of Nyesha looking pissed and shaking her head in disgust. One thing is for sure, Nyesha is pissed Heather’s smiling and wants to wipe that smile off of her face. Let’s ignore the fact that Nyesha was grinning from ear to ear when she was given a second chance, because I hate Heather too.

The Challenge

The eliminated chefs are brought back to cheer and harass the dueling cheftestants. The numbers are growing as Andrew, Keith, Chuy, Richie, Whitney and Dakota toss questions out rapid fire, stressing Heather out.

The challenge this episode is to create a dish using 3 techniques: frying, injecting and foaming.

This episode, the ousted cheftestants don’t get to taste and Tom doesn’t ask them what they think.

Heather made fried gulf shrimp injected with smoked paprika and porcini mushroom foam. Tom loves chanterelles and corn, but doesn’t care for overcooked shrimp or the combination of goat cheese and shrimp.

Nyesha made brown butter foam and beignet injected with caramel sauce. Tom thinks she’s brave for doing a dessert, the cheftestants Achilles heel, but felt the dish was very nice. He thought the foam was a bit heavy though.

Whose food looked better to you?

Tom makes one thing clear, he doesn’t care for overcooked shrimp and with that Nyesha stays the Reigning Last Chance Kitchen Champion. She’ll have to battle the next cheftestant from Top Chef Episode 9.
