TYLER PERRY

Tyler Perry was born on September 14, 1969 in New Orleans, Louisiana. Tyler Perry is best know for his character Madea. Madea is the female figure that Perry plays in many of his plays and movies and occasionally on his television shows. Madea is a loving terminology in the African American community that is short for Mother Dear. Madea is a strong black woman and the matriarch of the family. Madea is a gun-toting, overbearing, trash-talking brash woman who is very outspoken. Tyler Perry and his Madea character were catapulted into popularity by the movie Diary of Mad Black Woman. Tyler Perry is a writer, director, actor and producer and Tyler Perry Studios is the first African American owned studio in the United States. Tyler Perry attributes his success to an Oprah Winfrey show that helped him to seek healing through writing. Perry turned his writings into plays that helped to start his success and then his plays were turned into movies making him more famous.

MOVIES:

Diary of Mad Black Woman – After 18 years of marriage a husband kicks his wife out of his house so that he can bring in his mistress. The wife seeks refuge with her grandmother Madea. Madea helps her niece to get back on her feet and to find love.

Madea’s Family Reunion – In this movie Madea is court ordered to take care of a little girl, while her nieces struggle with their own personal problems. One niece is being beaten by her fiancé while Madea’s other niece is looking for love. Madea helps her niece to confront her abusive fiancé.

Daddy’s Little Girls – A mechanic is left alone with his three girls by his wife. Later on his wife comes back to try and take the girls. Meanwhile the mechanic takes on a job as a chauffer and falls in love with the lawyer he is driving. The lawyer takes on his case to help him get his girls back.

Why Did I Get Married – A group of friends all married go on a retreat where they find out all of the dirty laundry of each couple.

Meet the Browns – A single mother is invited to attend the funeral of her father only to find that he has a family who is not interested in including her into the family.

The Family That Preys – The relationship between two families that are very different and how their lives intermingle, causing chaos as they try to work together.

Madea Goes To Jail – Madea gets into trouble with the law and has to serve time in jail. Madea is still up to her same antics as a strong and blunt, trash-talking woman.

I Know I’ve Been Changed – This play is about two adult victims of child abuse and rape and how they deal with their pain.

I Can Do Bad All By Myself – A young woman trying to escape an abusive and cheating husband moves in with her sick grandmother Madea. Things get crazy when Madea’s family comes to her aid.

House of Payne – A day in the life of the Payne Family. The story revolves around CJ Payne and his two kids Malik and Jazmine moving in with their Uncle Curtis and Aunt Ella who has a son named Calvin. They move into their house after their own house is accidentally burned down by Janine, CJ’s wife and the mother of Malik and Jazmine.

Meet the Browns – A day in the life of the Brown Family. Leroy Brown is the best friend of Curtis Payne and the father of Cora Simmons who is said to the be the daughter of Madea.

For Better or Worse – A day in the life of Marcus and Angela Williams. Marcus and Angela are married and have a child together while Marcus has a child through a previous relationship. Marcus' ex is now in a relationship with his business partner. Marcus is a sportscaster while Angela owns her own hair salon.
