My Drink of Choice

Updated on September 25, 2012

Here is an even more helpful article.

Ever since I was a wee little man, I have enjoyed the aroma and flavor of coffee. While some might disdain my use of creamers and sugar, I still love the taste of coffee above all other creamy, sugary drink choices. As revealed by my title, my drink of choice, in most any situation, is coffee.

I was discussing beverages with a close friend of mine and we arrived on the topic of wines and other alcoholic beverages. He described how he liked to wind-down with a glass of wine or even a special beer. Nothing excessive, but just enough to feel the relaxing effects of alcohol. I am familiar with what he describes and I agree very much so that alcohol is very pleasing. But then I began to think a little more about the choice and considering cost, the diuretic effects and flavors, I finished rattling the thoughts around my head and settled on coffee being my 'wind-down' beverage. I reasoned with myself and figured if I am going to make an investment in something that I think tastes delicious and that is going to make me pee more, I would rather that be coffee.

I feel that anyone who enjoys coffee daily, will find that eventually the stimulating effects of caffeine level out and the relaxing experiences begin. (It could be relaxation or feeding a 'jones', but oh well...) Coffee makes a great companion with dinners, deserts, snacks, etc.

During my college years I worked for Starbucks Coffee Co. and really began to understand the dynamics of coffee bean types, roasts and pairings. Even though there are a lot of haters, Starbucks really does a good job at creating a tasty variety of roasts from beans all over the world. I no longer work there and I don't want to go back, but I do enjoy how they influenced me in my knowledge of coffee.

Now I wrote this to describe my drink of choice and I want to share a little more of what I make that drink from. I like the creamers that are out there but I have come across a delicious, accessible and affordable coffee called Cafe Bustelo. If you enjoy coffee and want something that won't break a budget, spring for this stuff! It is in a yellow can and you need a can-opener to open it. If you do take the time to drink it, let me know if you liked it.

If you know of some other great coffee sources let me know. I am excited to try new things.
