Daily earthquakes

   Did someone noticed that we have earthquakes small and big on almost daily basis. I read the news in cnn. I am just wondering. Is it really real or just cheap journalism?

      It's real. The earth is changing and shifting. I've noted it, too. Don't know that I feel overly alarmed about it. Just need to make basic preps in case it happens in the neighborhood.

      It's real. Most of those quakes are lower Richter and that is why we ignore it.

      Yes it happens all the time, and it has been happening for centuries. It is now monitored  and measured in more places than it used to be.

   The amount of earthquakes the Earth is experiencing isn't changing. 
   
   However, the ability of people to detect them and report them has changed radically, and the shift of populations to concentrated, urban areas has made more people susceptible to their effects.
   
   And yes, journalists do like to play up anything that can gain more eyeballs or sell more papers.

      Are you sure about this? Did you check today's news about  China earthquake? Chilea and Haiti disasters were just weeks ago.

   I was thinking the same a couple of days back emdi. Then I got to thinking the same way that Relache pointed out.
   
   Anyway, I hope there's no more. I know Lisbon isn't in a designated earthquake area but then, the one in 1755 still happened. Kinda sobering to think you're sat well away from tectonic rumblings, and then find that really - that doesn't always matter.

   Meander about the maps for a bit and see if you feel better or worse.
   
   But also note that the USGS sez:
   "As more and more seismographs are installed in the world, more earthquakes can be and have been located. However, the number of large earthquakes (magnitude 6.0 and greater) has stayed relatively constant"
   
   We actually had MORE quakes in 2008 than we did in 2009 according to the USGS.
   And more 8.0 or greater in 2007.

   About a year ago I was really upset by all of the earthquakes in my area, and began watching several sites that tracked them.  It seemed that earthquakes were constant in some areas.  Most of them were too deep in the earth or too small to be felt, but every now and then there would be a larger one that would get peoples attention. 
   
   I realized that if buildings don't fall down and kill many, no one really cares.

   Cali is experiencing a lot lately...we might get hit by a big one any day now since we r getting hit by smaller ones just like before the big one hit in Haiti.

   I would be more worried about the earthquake fault line that doesn't show any activity for a while. I grew up in the San Bernardino valley, where the San Andreas and San Jacinto faults say howdy to one another. The San Jacinto (which runs underneath San Bernardino Valley College and the I-10/I-215 interchange) makes adjustments all the time & gives off a little shake now and again, and when it does no one really knows or cares. It's like the San Andreas doesn't have enough sense to make these adjustments, so when it does go off the whole world knows.

   Earthquakes... have you heard about the global warming factor, everyday sun shines and earth absorbs some heat, glaciers are melting day by day.
   Mid of earth is a ball of lava, on which our tectonic plates float. charges at the end of plates are alway opposite like a magnet. so when two plates with opposite charges come closer or go farther then earthquakes come.
   In japan and some area of america earthquakes with low Richter scale are considered normal..
