The future state of man as we know him today is about to evolve into what he is today. If you believe in evolution then by design our world is about to change. Change how? Well we are surrounded by beautiful trees, streams, forests and stars to name a few sights. We all love the view of nature, or at least we used to. Do you remember when you used to go outside and enjoy the fresh air? Do you remember looking out the window? Perhaps if you did'nt drive you may have missed the beauty of outdoor life. If evolution by definition is true and correct man has created a smaller world for himself where enjoying the views of nature are slowly on the decline and unpractial. What I am trying to convey is, the windows in your new world, the ones that landscape your view are the windows of television, computers, drive thru windows, and cell phones. So if indeed Darwin was close, we don't need nature any longer or at least most of us have very little time in our modern world to enjoy it, so then the future means we have no use for the "windows" in our cars or in our houses. Do you look out the window? Or do you look in it? The virtual reality of the future evolution of man is to take away what he no longer needs or uses, or sees outside our new world of "windows".
Poleflux:
We are profoundly involved our evolution.
All of what you just mentioned is but part and parcel of the ongoing processes of natural selection.
As mankind becomes a more sophisticated creature, he will begin to try at greater length to control his environment and thus control his evolution...it's all very simple.
Simple as love peace free as being the foundation for mankind to live on the earth in the context of evolution.
You only speak for yourself, I think. I do not, nor will I, live in the human anthill of a large city. Nearly empty (of humanity) deserts, large lakes and clean forests are all within an hours drive of me, or often a couple of hours walk, and I wouldn't have it any other way.
While there are many people I know (my sister for example) that couldn't stand to live in the small city, large town that I do, I think it is a temporary aberration. Developed countries are seeing a falling population, except for immigration from less developed areas, and I really think that world population will once again fall to the point the multi-million population cities will no longer be necessary or desirable.
The human species is a community animal, requiring companionship of its own kind, but when carried too far (which happens in all large cities) it is harmful to the inhabitants - the species has not evolved to require or permit that kind of population density.
Wilderness:
That made not one whit of sense to me...lol
What is the point you are trying to make in ref to evolution?
ty.
Sorry, not very clear, I guess. I understood that the OP indicates that we are evolving to live in very large communities, away from nature - that we will build our own environment nearly in total. I disagree with the concept - I think humanity will once again shrink to a smaller population and return closer to nature.
The artificial "windows" we look into now are not for everyone; a very large number of people still use the "windows" into nature. As time passes I predict that ever more people will want and require the old fashioned "windows" and not the artificial ones. We will not evolve to live in steel caves.
Ok Wilderness...much better.
The majority of earth's human population lives in the open. Most have to deal with nature everyday and are an integral part of it. There are those who live lives like those who live 6000 yrs ago.
The "window' that you mention people looking thru to witness nature is available only to a minority of humanity.
In another generation or 2, world population will have increased to about 10 billion. Human population has no controls.
What do you think evolution has in store for us with that fact in mind?
wilderness.... you spoke of permit,,, i know not in this context, but what the heck...dont be surprised if someday soon it will be illegal to possess common sense without first obtaining a permit. (Couldn't resist)
Mankind has created all the things that you see all around you and the technology which we are now using such as hubpages. everything is in place now and will continue to expand for mankind benefits to enjoy on the earth. There is only one thing missing for mankind to create an environment so that we can enjoy it without destroying ourselves off the planet earth and that is love peace free. I am living this and if all of humanity would live this daily in their life then we would have paradise on the earth of which is why and the purpose for human beings life on the earth. Thank you qwark for letting me explain what I am trying to say.

What will the method be that is used to necessarily "reduce/cull" the human population to a level Mother "Gaia" can, comfortably and successfully, nurture it ?

Have we reached the maximum human population carrying capacity? If you refer to the picture, this can be observed when viewing population of bacteria growing in a petri dish. If Earth is the petri dish, where do you think humans are on this chart? Is our population about to crash?

What is the best way to lower the world's human population to 500 million and keep it that way?

.... will manking be reduced to "Eloi and Morlocks?"

Why didn't God create two first couples to seed the human population? If God was all-powerful, why did he not create two genetically distinct couples to start the human population rather than requiring the offspring of Adam and Eve to practice incest? This seems unusual considering that incest...

I caught a couple of episodes of Jesse Ventura's conspiracy theory show. It's pretty scary stuff-What do you think?
