I have to add some details about fashion photos, and fabrics etc that I need to get from a particular text.
I need to add proper attribution for cc too. Otherwise, I would really love any comments you could make.
Sorry Salt!
I loved it. I wasn't sure what I was getting into at first with all of the large pics at the top and just a few sentences after them and I almost left the hub altogether. After I read it, I completely got what you were going after there and it was brilliant. But I wonder if other folks might scroll a little and then leave without getting any of the "meat."
Quite a few times, I really thought the hub was done, because there were such looooong lists of ads. Just a suggestion -- instead of six ads running vertically, put two Amazon capsules next to each other with 3 in each box. Or two blocks of 2 instead of one long list of 4. It looks a bit neater and more compact too.
And I beg of you -- please give the "little black dress" a bit more prominence instead of being way at the bottom. The quintessential little black dress is what she was known for originally, and it's a huge part of the company's history -- and Coco's as well.
All in all, I really liked it. Nice job!
I agree with Irohner about the little black dress. It should be given more importance since it is still a staple for women. Every woman should have a little black dress right?
Also it seems a little choppy, the info about Chanel 5 is in two different areas. Perhaps have the introduction be about when she was born, how she grew up and brief overview of her contribution to fashion before going into details. But the information and pictures are awesome.
I have a few suggestions but first an important point regarding photos:
If you use a Flickr photo, it's not enough just to credit Flickr. You must credit the individual photographer with a link to their photostream.
Also, you say "some are some rights reserved". What are the others? If they're "all rights reserved", you can't use them.
I wrote a Hub on using Flickr photos you might find helpful.
Now for the Hub! My reaction was that if you're looking to make sales, you're probably going to lose people before they reach your ads.
For instance, if I'm a reader looking to buy vintage Chanel shoes, I'm going to look at a couple of photos and read the first a bit of text and think "oh, this is a history lesson, there aren't any shoes here". And I'll go elsewhere.
I'm not an expert on product Hubs, but I'd suggest making separate Hubs on vintage Chanel shoes, dresses, perfume, suits etc. Then show ads for shoes only on the shoes Hub, dresses only on the dresses Hub etc. You can include a bit of history in each Hub, or create a separate biographical Hub if you prefer. Finally, interlink them all together.
Marissa, you are spot on.
That is what I was intending to do. There is so much high quality information about chanel to share. She was an extraordinary woman in her work and life.
Replying again. Exactly right Marrisa, I was getting there, there was so much about chanel that I didnt want to leave it out!!!

Do you think it's a good or bad idea to write an opinionated hub on a "touchy" subject?I do not mean offensive, obscene, etc... just strongly opinionated.

Pretty much like one would have it on a blog - with the difference that I am talking about hubtivity here.I had posted a single comment to one of the hubs a while ago. I am not too interested in the topic, just wanted to share my experience and forget. Well, the thing is - for many months this hub...
