So we sit, wearing headphones and frozen grins, and continue denying that guilty, nagging feeling that actually, in some ways, when you think about it....Radiohead kinda blow.
Radiohead is the sort of dopilly dissonant, synth-mashing, warbling, British crap that passes for cutting edge these days. There internet fans are legion, there pretentious and egotistically dull albums continue to sell, and the people who malign the good name of critics by calling themselves as much incessantly drool over Radiohead.
Why Did Radiohead Become So Dull And Boring?
At the 2008 All Points West festival, as their thin stubbly faces filled massive video screens, Radiohead began their set with In Rainbows "15 Step" an open-ended groove with a querky electro beat, two chord motif, and airy, abstract singing. Then they did the 2001 song Morning Bell/Amnesiac an open-ended groove, with a querky electro beat, two chorded motif, and airy, abstract singing. Then they kept going, one groovy tune poem into another, masterfully weaving beats, sound washes, and misty vocals into an immersive expierence of sound, light, pattern, rythym, and utter, paralyzing boredom. By the encore, it was obvious what Radiohead had become: an exceptionally well dressed jam band. That you cant even dance to.
The Bends album came out when they were a bunch of British art school students who got famous thanks to there ability to make bland, likeable alt rock by stealing the quiet/loud dynamic perfeted by The Pixes and Nirvana.
In 2007, they dominated headlines by self releasing In Rainbows online on a pay what you want basis, posting a new economic model like some anarchist jewlery-maker at Burning Man. Of course, the nobility of the gesture was somehwhat mediated by the fact that Radiohead are millionares, and that three months later, In Rainbows was released, on CD, by a label(ATO) and sold in fine stores everywhere. The free download was more self-leaked promo then revolution.
Thom Yorkes eye what is with that? Im not trying to be mean but you've seen it right? Just saying. Radioheads OK Computer was perfect and would have been legendary but now its a footnote in there increasingly blah catalog. For a long time now, Ive been hearing about how great Radioheads music is. I hear alot of words tossed around brillant, challenging, intellectual, symphonic, post-modern....blah, blah, blah. Its a sham Radiohead sucks I remember first hearing them as a teenager. They've always been a pretty whiny band, which is annoying in of itself (I wish I was special, your so fucking special, but Im a creep) but over the years they've devolved into something even worse monumentally pretentious.
Radiohead is made even worse by there unending cohord of brainwashed hip followers who cant actually understand that it is possible to disilike the band. I dont like to say bad things about other peoples music but I cant listen to Radiohead fans drool on anymore RADIOHEAD SUCK end of story.
I never liked them, especially did not like them when they started murdering Neil young classics, not just one a fair old few!
Each to their own :-) I like Radiohead. 'The Bends' is an incredible album I think.
But a brilliant rant there BR anyway, I enjoyed reading it and hope you feel better getting that off your chest.
Frankly I like Radiohead better than The Pixies and Nirvana.
neil young as a singer is garbage!!!!!!!!!!!! he sounds like hes special ed but he writes good songs. Young and dylan songs both sound better when other sing them. Jacob bylan is a good singer song'writer must of got his voice from his mom.
I like Radiohead, they will never become mainstream because mainstream has to be 'upbeat and happy' and they have underlying messages to their lyrics..some who jump on the band wagon may try to associate with them but never sit down for more than half an hour and listen to the message properly.
I like Radiohead too. At least they experiment and challenge themselves instead of sticking with the same predictable formula EVERY band sticks too these days. I respect the fact they never play it safe. And like Shinkicker said The Bends , Kid A and OK Computer are all incredible pieces of art.

This is an intresting question to answer because alot of 90,s bands could warrent being called the biggest of the decade but which was the most consistant band through the 10 years? Nirvana cant be because Kurt Cobain killed himself in 1994. Metellica was also a huge band but they formed in the...

Who from the band The Beatles was your favorite?

Now more then ten years after the 90s were finished music fans and critics agree that these two albums defined 90s rock music. Debate over these two albums started a couple of years ago but it was friendly with both fan bases agreeing that they were both great albums. Just recently Rolling Stones...
