Obama Plans Pricey Birthday Bash on Default Day

   As America’s poorest wait for Social Security checks that may never come on Aug. 3, President Barack Obama will be out celebrating a milestone birthday at a party where tickets cost up to $35,800 each.
   
   Obama has chosen the first day of the potential default to throw his 50th birthday bash, combining it with raising money for next year’s election. His actual birthday is Aug. 4.
   
   Oscar winner Jennifer Hudson is expected to perform at the birthday bash at the historic Aragon Ballroom in Chicago. The event will be one of the president’s biggest fundraisers of the year. Publicity literature featuring a red, white and blue Happy Birthday logo has already been produced.
   
   The event will be “multi-tiered,” the Chicago Sun-Times reported. The Hudson concert would cost $50; admission to the party $200; a premium seat $1,000; a souvenir photo with the president $10,000; and VIP seating and dinner with Obama $38,500.
   
   What gaul. I cannot even believe he would have a fundraiser on DC-Day. Once more, I guess Obama will not be in the Whitehouse. Wonder if the taxpayers are footing the bill for this. After all, we have been paying for his campaigning for 2 ½ years

      If there is a default on the national debt, it will be the doing of the teabaggers. President Obama made a proposal of 4 TRILLION in cuts which the House has rejected because it would eliminate tax loopholes for big business, some of whom pay NO TAXES.
      
      The label teabagger was never more appropriate as they suck up to their moneyed masters who financed the astroturf movement. The House is demanding that oil SUBSIDIES.. gifts of government cash to BIG OIL... can not be touched, but they will refuse to raise the debt ceiling so seniors get Social Security on time.

         "A big reason Medicare Part D added billions of dollars to the federal deficit is that the law that created Part D forbids the government for negotiating for drug prices. Part D works a lot like Medicare Advantage, which is that it pays private insurance companies to offer prescription drug benefits to seniors. The prices of drugs are negotiated between the insurance companies and the pharmaceutical companies.
         
         By 2007, reports were coming out that Medicare Part D was paying 58 percent more, on average, than the Veterans Administration paid for the same drugs. Part D was a huge giveaway to Big Pharma, which was financed through deficit spending, since the Bushies refused to raise taxes to pay for it..."
         
         Estimates are that the price windfall to Big Pharma is upwards of 2 Billion per year. But to multiply the profits for Big Pharma, Medicaid recipients were moved onto Medicare Part D.
         
         "This year the CBO estimated that if the “dual eligible” beneficiaries were receiving drug benefits under the Medicaid pricing system, over ten years the federal government would save up to $112 billion dollars (see chart on page 54).
         
         Now, for all the hollering Republicans do about how Medicare is going broke, a sensible person would assume they’d jump at the chance to save $112 billion without cutting benefits. However, “sensible” and “Republican” haven’t lived in the same zip code for some time.
         
         A proposal to make this very change was made in the House recently, and for a time many Republicans supported it. Jonathan Cohn describes how House Majority Leader Eric Cantor led a charge against the bill, however. Note that Big Pharma donated $168,000 to Cantor’s re-election campaign in the last cycle. .."

            No argument here. I was against part d when it was first offered. There was no question it was going to add to the debt because Pharma was going to take advantage of it. Just like the rest of Medicare.

               We are halfway to agreement. Please note that Eric Cantor, who is the poster boy for the teabaggers in the House KILLED a proposal to reform the no competitive bidding provision that's a windfall for Big Pharma.

         Doug, It was the Repubs that put the 4 trillion in cuts on the table, that was less than what they wanted. Obama said yes if they would agree to rasing some taxes. Thats when the Rerpubs said no. Obama never made such an offer
