Wilderness leave an important message on the forum about Google seeing links to our other articles as duplicate content. When preparing my summary I have done - and perhaps too much so - cut and paste from the opening to my article. Is this going to hurt me? If I have links to my similar articles at the end (I thought I was helping the search engines find me) do I eliminate the summary or rewrite a whole new summary perhaps in a text box so it is truly unique.
Guidance please. I am returning after a hiatus of working full time, job hunting, moving and more. I am starting to make money so I remain dedicated but need some guidance.
In short, yes.
HubPages decided that having auto-generated summaries was being interpreted as duplicate content by Google and made a switch in the site to remove all that unoriginal (duplicated) text, so that authors would have to write summaries that were original (not seen elsewhere).
Have you noticed or read any of the many threads in the forums this past week about the new "A" symbol on dashboards and people wondering why their summaries have disappeared? That's exactly what that's all about...
relache,
I noticed the A but I thought the computer just dropped the summaries - didn't realize the importance of the originality separate from the Hub - thought it was acceptable if I copied my own content - see what you get when you assume!
Thank you very much!
I wondered about that summary myself. It is attached to, a part of, the original hub and you are (were) copying material from that hub to itself; is that really duplication?
At the same time that summary (or part of the hub) is used in link capsules and RSS feeds on other hubs, and that definitely IS duplicate material. Too many links could result in a high percentage of duplicate material on a hub with many capsule links or feeds and incur a penalty.
There must be some kind of filter that prevents the original hub from being "duplicate" as hundreds or thousands of other articles and hubs link to it using copy from the original. Maybe it doesn't work right if those links contain part of the hub itself instead of a "separate" summary?

Given all the time spend world wide worrying about Panda and Google's poor quality and duplicate content comments, what the hell does this post from GOOGLE themselves mean. Talk about contradictory!http://googlewebmastercentral.blogspot. … apers.html

I was reading a Hub on Hubpages, and was concerned to read the advice that the content we use in our Hubs should be unique, not something we've posted elsewhere on the net.I started out on Helium and have nearly 200 articles on that site. When I joined HubPages, I saw it as a great opportunity to...

After reading every post, every article, etc... on the subject matter I thought I'd start a post with arguments against Amazon being the source of the free fall in traffic that many of us experienced last week as I don't believe it is the problem. (I can't say 100% for sure).1.) Many hubbers which...

I have written a number of hubs which are part of an interlinking series. In the past I simply created a links page, which acted like a chapter page, with a short snippet from each hub, and then a link, but it seems this is no longer allowed as it represents "duplicate content". So how...

Is there anyway that a feature can be added to Hubpages that identifies where in a hub it thinks there is an instance of duplication.I recently published a hub which was identified as duplicate, I spent hours researching the topic and typing it up, once published in hub pages it was flagged as...

I notice several disgruntled Hubbers on Eric's new Hub, saying they're leaving HubPages because of the duplicate content flags. They seem to be misunderstanding what the dup content flag is all about - either they think they're being penalized, or that the flag means they have to delete the Hub.I...
