I published a hub yesterday and a few hours later a duplicate content flag appeared. I unpublished the hub to see what was wrong.

This used to be an article on a blog that I took down 2 months ago. The link is still in google, but it leads to a hostgator page that the blog no longer exists.

I want to publish some of the more popular articles that were on my blog, but am not sure how to proceed. None of the articles can be read anywhere but here, but Google still has the old links in its database.

Google has to have more than just a link in its database for you to be getting duplication warnings, most likely the entire articles are still in their web cache.  Until those clear, HubPages is going to be dinging you on your content.

Should I leave the hub unpublished? Do you know how long it takes for the Google cache to normally clear?

You can request an expedited cache removal by following these directions:

        http://www.google.com/support/webmaster … er=1663660

I've had to do this quite a few times with very speedy results.  Good luck!

Thank you for the link. I didn't know I could do this. I'll go remove all of the URLs for the articles I am moving over here.

As much as Google's "caffeine" is supposed to crawl continuously, no one really knows.  You might ping the old sites to get Google to revisit and thus truly know the content has changed.

But you also really need to make sure there aren't copies that were plagiarized/reproduced elsewhere because if that's the case, with the originals down, you'll have no effective way of proving you originated that content.  I've had that happen when moving things and it sucks.

And if you don't leave the hub unpublished, most likely it will be flagged by the filters and unpublished by the moderators anyway, so leaving it as is for now is probably best.

It must be aggravating to write something, have someone steal it, and then you have to watch them earn a profit on your work.

I checked on this particular hub and all four links go to my old blog - one for the article and three for keywords. However, I will take your advice and check for plagiarism before moving the other articles over to HP.
