People ordered and Rec'd. merchadise from my hubs? What are they doing

   Hello Jean,
   
   I am sorry that Hubpages is showing different information than we are showing. 
   
   I checked your account, with Associate ID jeabakonhub-20 and found that you opened the account on November 27, 2010.  From that date, through yesterday, you have sold $146.02 worth of merchandise. However, you do not receive that money, that is the total cost of all of the orders, not your earnings.  The advertising fees you earned through those sales are a total of $5.85.  That is amount that we owe you.
   
   Because your payment method is direct deposit, we cannot pay you until you have earned at least $10, which is why you have not yet gotten a payment.  We will send that payment approximately 60 days after you reach the $10 minimum.
   
   I also wanted to let you know that we're not able to accurately test links that are generated in conjunction with the various Hubpages business models such as Amazon Capsule. If you have further questions regarding these links you will want to contact Hubpages directly.

   That is how it works

   I have sold $299.25 this month but earned $17.96.
   
   And HubPages has no statistics, it takes you right to Amazon.

      I've been seeing orders that were filled with merchandise I put on my Amazon capsules, and thought I sold $146.02 worth of stuff, and that Amazon owed me my first $100.00. I don't get it, I only  made advertising fees in this whole time? I began putting the capsules on all my hubs in Jan 11. I've been going back & forth with Amazon, because I thought I was right. I'm not?

         No, you are not.   You get a tiny percentage of what is sold and even that is different among different products and has a flat cap with some.
         
         Amazon explains all that.

            OK, sorry. What a disappointment. I wasn't very computer literate when I came onto HP, and it was hard for me to set up all the different things. As it appeared people were ordering books and tarot decks, and the prices were adding to the correct amount, I thought if it said ordered and shipped, that was mine. What a waste of time then, to search thru Amazon and try to find things that will be useful to someone who read the hub. Now I've embarrassed myself and feel like I wasted a whole year. I finally got a payout from HP this month, but have been writing for about the hours of a F/T job. Thanks for setting me straight, but now I'm really discouraged.

   Jean, you'll want to log into your Amazon Associate account and go to the help section and then read the part titled "Advertising Fees."  That gives the most simplified explanation of how earnings are calculated and paid out via the Amazon program.

      Thanks relache. It really sucks, but it's my fault for misunderstanding. I spent so much time on Amazon capsules, and for a few dollars. It seemed to make sense from my point of view. I'll have to read more and think it through. My family thinks I spend far too much time on HP, and I ignore that because I like it. But I thought I was finally beginning to make some money. Thanks everyone for your quick answers, maybe another computer dummy can learn from my mistake.

         I suppose it might be better if they showed "Sales" and "Your Earnings" rather than "Revenue" and  "Advertising Fees".   That makes it sound like you might be getting the revenue less the fees..  but it is just the fees that you get.

            Glad you can't see my red face! As a writer I do think the wording could be clearer, but it is what it is. And it's going to change soon anyway. I began questioning the Amazon people last night, so sorry that I just posted my info on this forum. I didn't know how to better explain what I thought. Shortly after I read what everyone said on this thread, I was due to be at a psychic fair. I'm glad I wasn't reading today, I was only a visitor. My "creative" and "third eye" chakras are open. Too bad there's not one for computer understanding!
