There are cures for serious illnesses and preventative shots that can be used before you are infected, but why is there still no cure for the common cold and the flu? Is it because the virus changes with each person or are we simply not researching it enough to find a solution?
Because there is no such thing as the common cold, because there are so many different cold viruses. There has been extensive research over the years, but no cure. And it is more important to focus on the major life-threatening illnesses than upon something which is simply an inconvenience.
Actually, the common cold is deadly. A child with a weakened immune system can die from it and so can many others.
Also, there are a lot of people researching major illnesses, but few go after the "little" ones that can develop into something much more over time. If we ignore the 'smaller' problems, they can develop into major ones rather quickly.
For example, my sister had a simple cold, took some cough medicine and then, in a few short days, ended up in the hospital because it developed into something worse. The same with cancer patients and those with HIV or AIDS... if we cannot get rid of some of the smaller viruses, they will grow and adapt into some of the larger ones we see today. So, if we can end the cold with a shot, then we would be able to see if something is a cold or just symptoms of another illness.
I've seen people die because they thought they had a cold, but it ended up being something much worse. So if we wiped it out, they would go to the doctor sooner and may have lived.
