Hi all, I'm new to the forums, but not to HubPages. I've been flitting around for about 4 years. A recent move caused me to have more time on my hands, so here I am, Hubbing again.
I've been asking more questions lately and on my 'end of the world' one I received some cool answers. However, I deleted one that was a word by word account ripped right from the Bible.
I deleted it because I felt it was an over the top reply by a zealot - I did not delete other answers that mentioned God...this one was just a 'fire and brimstone' answer that I had heard enough of when I was forced to go to a religious school.
The Hubber is all in a huff, claiming his answer was his own words - when I know for a fact it's just regurgitated End Times tripe. I did not want readers from other religions or non-religions to read that and be pushed away. He claims I am breaking the 'good faith' here at HP by removing his answer.
He also told me I offended him AND God. I'm very tempted to tell him off in a polite way - though I may offend his deity more.
What I'd like to know is:
1. Did I really break good faith?
and
2. What will my punishment for the offensive behavior be? Eternity with only tofu to eat (unmarinated) or worse?
marinated tofu is ok, healthy too. You have the right to remove answers which are copied (even divinely copied) .
Welcome back again!
Marinated is great, but oh the humanity of it all! Thanks for the welcome!
Nah you didn't break good faith and God is big enough to let you decide whose comments to keep.
Perhaps....perhaps not. I think this person is sending me to my doooooom.
Just out of curiosity, did you mean to post this in Atheism and Agnosticism?
Yes, I did. I'm agnostic and thought it would be fun to see how many others were getting this sort of treatment from self appointed evangelists.
Sorry, I just couldn't be sure from your original post
That's okay. Sometimes my sarcasm doesn't come through right.
I get a few religionists blathering on my evolution hubs from time to time. If they're bringing up a legitimate point, or even trying to ask a "gotcha" question about the science, I don't mind approving it and responding. But sometimes they'll post complete garbage that makes them look idiotic. I don't approve these comments. Mainly out of pity for the commenters.
In short - it's your Hub. You can moderate it however you like.
I'm with you. Nobody wants to read spam.
Well, since a day of eating tofu (marinated or otherwise) would feel like eternal damnation....chin up. It's not that long. It will pass. Even if the zealot is right.
How the hell is he supposed to know what God wants? Isn't it a sin to suppose to know the will of God?
Personally, I wouldn't have deleted it. My philosophy has always been that the cure for speech you don't like is more speech, not censorship. Also, if that person is going to post direct Bible quotes, they'd better be prepared to defend them. Of course, it's your hub, your choice.
I've read all the posts on this forum and I must say, this is the most polite forum I've read.
And not just because everyone agrees, either.
Julie....I visit the forums sporadically. Always pass over (basically ignore) the religion banter.....I'm actually sorry that you even wasted your precious mind, giving this zealot any space or time here.
Don't even have to know what was said or why. The vast majority of them simply stammer and sputter and have not a single original thought.....they love to quote, though.....and that's pretty much all they do....quote, point, preach and sputter some more. (Quite like puppets are manipulated to do.) They are to be pitied for being as blatantly pathetic as they are. We must practise patience with the ignorant.
You can and should moderate how you choose. I applaud your decision.
"Tell him off in a polite way?" Save yourself, Julie. Phony martyrs feed off that stuff. Laugh it off and step over him where he lays in the muck of self-righteousness...alone and stagnant.
I apologized and backed off. I figure it's best to give up before a fight ensues that will tarnish my reputation. I should have handled it with more grace in the beginning. Thanks for the support :-)

Why do some people ask a question then delete the answers they don't like?A number of times I've gone back to look at an answer I gave and the questioner has deleted it. Do they wish to embrace censorship or silence the opposition?

Yes He does, there is no question that God done have the answer for. Ask one?

Are you offened when someone asks if you're a "believer"?Twice within the past two weeks I've had people ask me this question which I find terribly offensive. A darling young mother and neighbor, in front of her three children with lovely Old Testament names, blurted out at the end...

In YOUR estimation, when it is okay to delete an answer from your questions? Do you delete an answerwhen the answer is totally& aberrantly irrational & illogical in its premise &/or presents a basis of inverse logic at its worst? At what point do you delete an answer from...

What are the boundaries? - If I say in my webpage Humor and Jokes... "...There are religious jokes, actually 1 Jewish joke & 3 Christian jokes, so no Muslims will be offended - In this way, I hope to avoid flag and effigy burning, the throwing of shoes and issuing of fatwas. There is...

Does God listen to our petitions or do we need a "hearing-aid" to hear his answer?
