It's artificial if you have faith they will fix it or aren't one of the people who will be down a few thousand dollars if they don't.
But the point is that it really doesn't exist, it's all smoke and mirrors according to some economists - not the ones who are lapdogs to the mainstream media of course . . . funny what they're proposing on those channels!
http://www.alternet.org/economy/6-reaso … cliff-scam
The tax cuts will expire, over a period of time. A lot of people will pay more tax than they did in the last few years. There is no smoke and mirrors there.
I think you are missing the point in the article which is that this crisis was manufactured to occur (which is true). But if it does occur the tax hikes will be very real for working families. It will be a real crisis.
The person writing that post doesn't care if people's taxes go up a lot. Honestly, neither do I because I will not be effected. But a hell of a lot of people will and may lose things like houses, health insurance, college funds etc because of the extra financial burden. This is not at all fake. That is very real.
Ok . . . understand what you're saying - guess we're looking at it from different directions.
The way I understand it (and what these links are saying) is that the situation is being blown up into a catastrophe which is not as difficult to remedy as Washington is making it out to be - but Obama/Congress/rich want to push austerity and cut Social Security/Medicare and so the issue is being portrayed as something more than it is so they can push their agenda.
Of course it would be easy to fix if Washington wasn't a mess. Of course the politicians caused this crisis. But Washington is a mess. And there is a really chance that is going to cost hundreds of thousands of people a lot of money and many of them will suffer serious consequences such as bankruptcy. I am looking at it from their perspective, not some arbitrary political position. Have you worked out what it will cost your household if all the tax cuts are allowed to lapse?
Trust me, the cliff is very real and even my parachute will not protect me from the great economic fall. I find it funny (sarcasm) that our dearly beloved (sarcasm again) President went to visit other Countries, enjoy the Holidays among other things to avoid solving this issue. I for one am very aware of the upcoming catastrophies that our country will face.
You realize Congress controls the money?
Its all an illusion. Everything is set up to take more money from the people. The government owns all of the money and prints all the money. Their goal is to take as much as possible from the people. That's how you control freedom. If you win a lotto jackpot, they take half. Nothing but control. David Letterman asked Obama about the deficit, who do they owe? He was caught off guard and stuttered, then he said umm...the American people.
An artificial crisis . . . scam . . . whatever you want to call it . . .
NOT the apocalypse the way the mainstream media is portraying it to be . . .
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aZOdjgYJ … r_embedded
The media are portraying it as hiking a lot of people's taxes if the politicians don't come up with a deal. And it will.
So that's completely accurate.
What part do you dispute: That people will lose a lot of money, or that losing a lot of money is bad for people?
And you haven't answered yet about what it will do to the tax bill in your household. As you have such strong opinions about tax I am sure you calculate and pay your own taxes and know how this will affect you.
Sigh.
Psycheskinner, the whole point of this is not that people aren’t going to get hurt by the “fiscal cliff” – they are and I’m not arguing that they’re not. But there’s not going to be an apocalypse on December 21 or whenever the dreaded date is supposed to arrive. Taxes may go up and SS/M/M may get cut but under false pretenses . . . due to, as you say, a “crisis” manufactured by Washington - because the results of the decisions they are trying to push are beneficial to them and their backers. Did you actually read/listen to any of the links?! What exactly are YOU arguing?!
Of course, the mainstream media is scaring the bejeebers out of everyone about tax hikes if there isn’t a deal! Who do you think pays the medias’ salaries? Is there a single mainstream media outlet out there that is actually telling people that the government can just “Say No” to Obama/the Republicans pushing their agenda? Or that the so called “Fiscal Cliff” (cue scary music) is just a scare tactic? Or that it is entirely possible to sort all this out in the beginning of next year? Probably not – I wouldn’t know because I don’t listen to the garbage. Maybe if people knew this they could tell Congress (as much as you can tell Congress anything) they better not raise taxes and cut SS/M/M . . . without fear.
Where on earth did you get the idea I have “such strong opinions about tax”?! I never once mentioned anything about taxes - but you seem to be fixated on them. As for my taxes, I’m not avoiding answering anything: no, I don’t do my own taxes and, no, I haven’t figured them out because right now I’m not earning enough to worry about it. Try and not make wild assumptions.

Opinions on the impending DOOM of the "fiscal cliff?"I think the whole thing stinks. It's a whole lot of fear mongering meant to distract people from much more important issues. There is a 0% chance of "falling off the fiscal cliff," simply because the economy was created by us,...

Paul Krugman:" Back in 2010, self-styled deficit hawks — better described as deficit scolds — took over much of our political discourse. At a time of mass unemployment and record-low borrowing costs, a time when economic theory said we needed more, not less, deficit spending, the scolds...
