    Woke up this morning.

    Sat on edge of bed.

    Stretched right arm.

    Pulled right leg muscle.

I have no idea how that could happen, but it did.

Major project for me to just get from room to room.

LOL  I shouldn't laugh at your misfortune, but your pic is just so perfect I can't help it. smile

Buck up, Paradigm - those of us in our "senior" years find this kind of excitement and wonder every day.  You have lots of company.

Yep.  I hobble around every day.   Am sorry to hear you do the same, paradigmsearch.   But at least we're movin', right?  No matter how slowly.....

I know the feeling. When u get up, you have to be careful 'till body is in sync. It will recover if u can walk it off. Get better fast!

    Thanks, all.

I'm a firm believer in perspective. HP sure does take care of us though. Check out the hub of the day they picked. Just for me. big_smile

Two ibuprofen down. Topping off with aspirin and Coca Cola. I should be a happy camper pretty quickly now...

Ah, PDS, you need a long hot soak in the bath to relax your muscles!

        That's a good idea.

The way the pain was so bad at first, I thought I might be in some serious trouble. However, my hobble speed has already doubled from when I first got up.

Yes, but remember that you've taken pain killers, so the pain may be numbed but you still have the injury. Don't run before you can walk (pardon the pun) Have a nice hot bath, soak those muscles and then just take it easy.

It must be the season...I woke up a couple of days ago with back pain, something I haven't experienced for years and years. Have no idea how it happened. Finally I took 2 Aleve this morning, which hasn't helped much. Will have a Reiki session this afternoon from my wonderful daughter. Here's hoping we all get relief sooner than later!

Tell me about that therapy. I want it.

Alas, depression has set in for some reason...

It' possible you may have trapped a nerve rather than pulled a muscle, in which case the pain and hobbling may subside as quickly as it started.

Concluded my first nap. Just feeling twinges and/or dull aches now and am back up to 80% of normal speed. Cup of coffee seems to be alleviating wherever that depression came from. Who knows? I might even do something productive today.

Aaaaaaand I slept wrong so the right shoulder is punishing me with great pain. (Arthritis is a mean roommate.)

Let us form a string quartet! Except that right now I don't think I could hold a fiddle compared to what you're going through.

      I feel a song coming on... big_smile

It can happen.  Any number of strange physical reactions are possible......because the arm bone's connected to the hip bone, the hip bone's connected to the leg bone, the leg bone's connected to the foot bone.....and everything is held together by muscle and ligaments and fibers and nerves etc etc.........and the spinal column is the center of attraction of the entire body.....Did you never hear that song?  You're probably too young....But trust me, aside from the silly song, it really is true!
I sneezed while driving one day....and by the time I got home, I was in the most excruciating shoulder and neck pain of my life.....worse than whip-lash.....It required 10 visits to the chiropractor, massage, rest and medication.....ONE LITTLE SNEEZE.   Go figure.

I wonder if diet can cause muscle spasms. Too much or too little of something...

Salt! Or least that's what my mother used to tell me.

Thanks! While researching salt, I discovered that low potassium can also be a cause. I've added bananas to my food list... There have been other incidents in the past, but nothing like this morning's. How about that? This problem may just have been solved... smile

When I was a kid, I had the most fantastic pair of roller skates. I also used to get the worst cramp in my ankle, my mother swore blind it was because I refused salt on my meals. I think it was the roller skates, my mother still believes it was because I didn't consume enough salt.

Anyway, what I should have said earlier is that a lack of salt ;if there is such a thing, which I doubt considering how much is already in our food, is believed to be, according to my mother- the culprit when it comes to muscle spasms.

Btw, your page on one of my blogs had 2 hits today. If it keeps up, I'll have to go back and tack on some referral trackers.

Is the hub in question still here though, PDS? I do intend to write more here, and I had made an effort to write much more detailed, quality hubs. But alas, Google slapped me anyway. sad

Actually, when my sister was on dialysis she had to have a very low potassium diet, and she always had cramps.

And I discovered that fish has potassium, and I've actually got some of that.

If any of you are interested...just had that Reiki session about three hours ago. It let me take a short walk with the dog, later, an incredible improvement over the last few days.

I'm not saying this is a cure; it is not. But it is a way of alleviating tension, and we all know that when we have pain, just the thought of the pain can tense us up and make things worse. This was a 20-minute time of total relaxation guided by Reiki principles, followed by a hot shower and assisted stretching.

Although I took some Aleve earlier in the day (which I hated to do, because I take no medication unless it's needed to save my life), it had worn off before the Reiki session. I don't think I'll take any more tonight.
