hubpages dropped in ranking

   when i published my hub, it was on the top of search engine the next day and then it stayed there for almost a month....last monday when i checked it, its no longer there, can't even find what page it is in for the keyword im targeting...
   so is this normal? is the traffic here only good while its fresh then it eventually drops....
   currently i have no backlinks yet for my hubpage...
   so could this be the reason? like how many backlinks do i have to aim to keep it at a steady rank...

      the same happened to me, only with Google tho, with yahoo im still on page one for print screen.

   Google rankings are changing constantly and no one owns the top spots. You have to work very hard to keep them. Look at whose there now. What page ranks to the pages have. What does their content look like. How many backlinks do they have. Yes, if you have no backlinks this is a problem.
   
   Then work to improve your hub so that it is competitive in these areas.

   I thought i did not have to work for backlinks for hubpages. I thought it can rank on its own...so why will i work for  backlinks for my hubpage,  i might as well exert the effort working on my website instead...

      The combination of hubs and backlinks produces some of the most impressive rankings and google traffic that I've seen in years. And I've got a bunch of my own sites. But you gotta earn the top placement. How many backlinks you need depends on the niche you're going after.
      
      I just scored a competitive top five in Yahoo and it took scads of backlinks. But I'm working it for the Xmas season so I'll keep pumping them in.

      I barely use backlinks right now for my hubs and am happy with my results. However, I purposely choose topics that don't have a lot of competition. They don't pay a lot, of course...but it all adds up when you have a bunch of hubs.
      
      I agree, if I was going to spend all sorts of time with backlinks, I'd just have my own site. For now, being able to just focus on producing content and having it rank well is ideal for me. I like instantaneous results and backlinking is tedious!!

      oh yeah...i cant edit the title anymore...im just a little disappointed because im tired of building backlinks for all my other sites, though it does reap great rewards ....i thought i did not have to do the same for my hubpage thats why i join here....
      oh well, i guess i have to work on my backlinks and see how it goes...

   It usually goes much better here, unless you have an authority site of your own. And even then, getting four rankings instead of two has its pluses.

   Backlinks are links to your hub.
   
   They can be from other hubs (very easy, but effective).
   
   They can be from other websites you own. Blogger and wordpress blogs count. (still easy, but a little more work.)
   
   Or they can be from sites owned by other people. This is a little harder because generally to get those links you have give a link back. And you have to limit you links out on Hubs. I think the limit is two.
   
   You alos have to put in the effort to find sites that are compatible with yours; and then email the site owner for the backlink. I've found that if you can get a lot of these, they really do help your rankings, but you gotta work it a lot.

      The limit is two links per domain.  You can actually have a lot more links on your hub, but only 2 going to the same domain.

         It is also worth noting that for some domains this limit doesn't apply.  I think they include such sites as Wikipedia, BBC, CNN etc.

    only 2 links allowded from hubs? I think if u are linking hubs only 3-4 are also works.

    When you backlink on other sites do you backlink to individual hubs or do you backlink to your profile page?

    If your page has disappeared from Google entirely it might have been sandboxed (ie dumped out of the search listings). This happens if Google decides your site is spam. Common reasons for this are links to spam sites or copied content.
    
    It happened to one of my sites and I changed a pile of stuff,including reducing keyword density, rearranging where keywords appeared. I think the real problem was a link to a blacklisted site. The site concerned seemed fine at first glance but it did strange things, like opening itself when you hadn't asked it to open.
    
    My own site is fine now. Trouble is, I changed so much I can't be sure what the exact fix was!
    
    As far I could see if you are sandboxed, Google gives you another chance after a month.

    I've just spent a bunch of time at webmasterworld and there's a lot of discussion about the latest google update a few days ago. There have been lots of changes. So this could explain some things.

    In my SEO experience, I have had the same thing happen many times as well.  Sometimes the ranking goes away completely and the site is sandboxed, as someone stated above.  Other times, I've had the site disappear off the ranking for just a short amount of time (sometimes like an hour or two) and then pop back up with no issues at all.  I'm not sure why this happens sometimes, but I bet some of the more experienced SEO gurus know.
