Views UP, Money Down

   I posted this question  to a few fellow hubbers on FB:
   
   "Why is it that my views are up, but the ad share pay is down?"
   
   A couple of people pointed out that advertisers may adjust their Google advertising to pay less for clicks in the new year. I thought this sounded reasonable, but today's information just is not computing for me.
   
   Early on, I wrote quite a few hubs where the keyword views only paid $0.10. Over the last year plus, I have focused on using keywords that have higher pay rates - $4 and up.
   
   My traffic from 700 hits per day was about $1 pretty consistently. I was thrilled to see it creep upward, along with traffic. After hitting the 1,000 views per day mark last fall, I was seeing $2.60 - $2.80 per day. These last two weeks, though, I've seen my traffic continue to 1150-1200 hits per day, and my ad share has fallen to as low as $1.37 - the same as I earned with poorer keywords, fewer hubs, etc. I would have made more off the same views two years ago if ONLY my $0.10 keywords were getting hits!
   
   What gives?

      That's odd. My views are a lot less than yours, but I get about the same amount of money per day.

         When I started HP, I wrote a lot about relationships, and they are my most popular hubs with about half of my views coming from them. The drawback is that these aren't popular subjects for advertisers, so the cost-per-click rate is extremely low, like $0.10 - $0.14 cents.

   Yesterday was my highest traffic day this year. Yesterday was my lowest CPM day this year.

      This week my CPMs have dropped by 2/3, but my views have stayed high.  I think the problem is that at the end of the holiday season, advertisers were pushing to make sales and were willing to pay more, but that is over now.  Sometimes it hardly seems worthwhile to spend time trying to get views when the more you get the less money you get.

   But for the CPMs to be lower than they were last July or April seems insane! I believe there has to be something more to this.

   Google changed something. I'm not sure exactly *what*, but I do know that when I use a search term that I used a week ago, I get completely different results this week than last week, and the results I get aren't the ones I want.
   
   I've not read anything about a Google update though, so I'm not sure what's going on with that.
   
   My views and pay are both up.

      I have earned more on Google Adsense, so perhaps it's related to changes being made by Google and how they interact with sites like HP. EM, are you signed up on Adsense, and if so, have you notice any changes there?
