And all because it is so important to have a few dollars more to spend in the mall.

We are suppose to get 5" to 8" of snow today and tomorrow. It will be nice once winter is over in the colder northern states.
You know what I don't get. We have the technology to capture carbon dioxide from the air. Sure, reduction in emissions is a major part of countering some of the negative effects of human action on this planet but if we have the technology to capture carbon dioxide from the air and we know that carbon dioxide is a large part of the problem why are we not going to greater lengths to use this technology on a greater scale?
Seems odd. If rising sea levels will jeopardize residents in many areas and we could have islands disappear completely it seems insane not to act. I suppose money for wars and such is more important than that.
Money is freedom, money is speech, money is influence, money is everything we hold dear in this society. It is always the first topic when we plan to do anything as it is what is required to make it happen. America loves greed as evidenced in our government and private lives. How easily our opinion is changed when it will reward or cost us money. Nothing gets done in this country without it.
It is an ugly picture isn't it?
It is an ugly picture. I'd much rather see tax dollars go to resolving this than to see them shoveled into the defense budget. Although, this would certainly qualify as defense.
Not just islands, but entire metropolises that are on the Coast in various parts of the world, including New York City, San Francisco, etc.
Are you familiar with the work of Guy McPherson? Any thoughts, if so?
I am genuinely shocked by that graph. That final peak is staggering.
I first studied global warming in college forty years ago. It was one of many environmental concerns (all fixable at the time). For the next twenty years I followed the debate and realized nothing would ever get done because of narrow self-interest in so many areas. So, I decided to emulate others and forget about it.
The thought was that I could at least live out my own little life without suffering the worst effects.
I still have ten or twenty years to go and I reckon it is going to catch up with me.
Pretty much the same situation with me.
I'm far enough inland I don't have to worry about being drowned, but I am really getting tired of the summers around here...
What could you do even if you wanted too? The politics of it have been deduced into a sky is falling scenario with if you don't know don't do anything as it will only cost money and jobs and etc.......
I'm up in Alberta and winter has already been over since the beginning of February. It's freaky. We drove around central Alberta on Christmas Day (which would usually be a nightmare) and the roads were like summer. I don't care for it at all...but it's only going to get worse.
